Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a)

I didn't think we were that bad first half, other than the last ten to fifteen when we absolutely could not clear our lines. Second half was much better and we got, I think, a deserved point. The substitutions made a big difference, a bit more composure in the wide forwards, a more assured touch in ...

Re: Rival Watch

Not to mention West Brom away where (ISTR) he came charging out for a ball he was never, ever going to get to. But he is the only Reading keeper to score for Reading while playing as a keeper. twice FWIW, I think he scored his first goal coming on as a striker in a friendly And I basically forgive ...

Re: New Owners - Redwood Watch

I'd like us to follow the Brentford model! How the f*ck did they achieve what they have and, IIRC, it certainly wasn't by their owner spending big, at least in the early days. There is no Brentford model. What there is, is the Reading model that clubs like Brentford and Brighton have adopted and ad...

Re: New Owners - Redwood Watch

There is a Wycombe model. It is one that lacks the financial investment in the acquisition of the best young players with potential to grow, along with their value. It manages financial risk by simply not taking them. I'd like us to follow the Brentford model! How the f*ck did they achieve what the...

Re: New Owners - Redwood Watch

I was getting very frustrated with the lack of ambition in the transfer market. Seeing our best players leave for small fees or nothing at all. These frustrations have eased this week by readjusting my expectations under the realisation of what has been the primary cause. I held on to this notion t...

Yeah, I agree overall, I didn't think he did much else wrong. Just that handball incident felt like he was playing it as safe as possible.

Oh yeah, and the referee absolutely bottled the handball incident, so far as I could see.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Portsmouth (a)

WRT academy, yes, clearly an advantage in League 1 in that we get a solid supply of good enough players. I honestly can't see any viable model for building back that doesn't include the academy.

Plus, I cannot be the only one who wants to see a side of our kids, plus a few canny buys, doing alright.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Portsmouth (a)

I enjoyed that. Really mature performance from a very young/makeshift side. Ahmed and Ryan were my two standouts, although Kelv lead the line very effectively and I thought Garcia played one of his better games. The best element was the way we attacked, crisp passing, effective running. All good stu...

Re: Squad for 2025-2026

Our centre-back pairing is going to be weaker this season, no matter who we end up brining in before the end of the transfer window. We've also lost 35 goals and 13 assists simply through Smith, Knibbs, Campbell and Wareham leaving, without considering their all-round impact on the team. At best, o...

Re: The idiots of Twitter thread

I think it predates social media. I think it started with the advent of 24hr sports newscasting and the need to have a constant drip feed of news. We've been conditioned to believe that no news is bad news. One of my favourite windows was 2015-16 where we seemed to be signing players out of nowhere...

Re: Confimred - Paddy Lane

There's an old US folk song about Paddy working on the railway.

United would be all over that.
