Re: Changes In Football thread

... as a lot of the issues he runs into is down to coaches/players thinking they know the rules when they don't, or intepret them incorrectly. They could solve a lot of that problem by making it compulsory for anyone commentating or summarising on TV to also have some form of referee badge... Or at...

Re: Old Timey Football Thread

I only learned today that in the 1982 world cup draw, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland were not allowed to be put into the same group as Argentina due to the Falklands war. The draw took place nearly three months before Argentina invaded, so unless FIFA had some inside information from the th...

Re: By Far The Greatest Team The World Has Ever Seen

I don’t think there are 600 odd better teams than us in the world. This is why the Club World Cup should include everyone. I actually really like this idea. Make the CWC a straight knockout tournament. The top 1024 teams based on those rankings qualify and it's a random draw right the way to the fi...

Re: Modern football things you don't like

How long it takes for a trophy to be presented now. I checked footage, and for the 1981 cup final, the time between the game ending and the cup being lifted was only three minutes. This season, from the game ending to the official on the pitch presentation, took 29 minutes. Even if you count just th...

Re: Doing the 92

I get it's about 'half-empty modern souless bowls' and maybe rubbish football. But its just madness to put these sort of perfectly decent stadia at the bottom whilst choosing decrepit terraces, uncomfortable outdated stands and terrible sight lines at obsolescent stadia ahead of them. It's not 'mad...

Re: On this day......

The Bolton game was, without doubt, the worst I've felt after a Reading game. It felt like we were robbed of promotion that year. Bolton should have been down to 10 for an hour, and their player who should have been sent off set up their equaliser. Walsall and Huddersfield were really annoying, but ...

PieEater
RG30 Gillingham (A) Saturday 12th July 3pm KO confirmed.

The worst ground in the League, but will probably still go.

Three sides don't look too bad, but the away end looks terrible. I've not been there since we played a league cup tie there about 30 years ago, before it got rebuilt.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Barnsley (h)

Turns out Mike Gow has nothing to do with the EFL, he is some kind of social media user with a special interest in Reading FC (aren’t we all?). So why was he wearing an Everton shirt? He was the guy who did a large amount of very detailed investigation into the court cases in China surrounding Dai ...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

I'm struggling with how you have reached that conclusion. You think that the EFL having given the club an extension till the end of the season will exclude the club from the playoffs. On what grounds do you think they would they exclude the club ? For having an owner who is banned. If they do it no...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

I can envisage the following: - Couhig unable to do the deal by 22nd, but close enough for the EFL to give an extension to May 4th - Reading get to Play-Offs - Deal getting even closer by May 4th; further and final extension by EFL until after the end of the Play Offs - Reading win play-offs - Dai ...

Yeah  …and I appreciate that the whole point of HNA is to converse, bitch, peacock, argue and stuff, but please please please, can we just the one thread here that gives us proper news (given our volatile situation) and doesn’t do any of the aforementioned? Leon's a miserable toad anyway ...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

The only way for Reading FC to move forward is for Dai to be gone. The announcement by the EFL of the granting of the extension enabling Dai to complete a sale to 22/4 is a positive step to seeing Dai gone, as it strongly implies there is a genuine impetus to selling the club; after all, if there w...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

An opportunity for the EFL to reassure the fans, confirm there is a buyer and clarify how far along the deal is, wasted. Still no evidence the “other man” is Robert Platek, leaving only Twitter rumours and copypasta journalism as the source of this name, and we have heard nothing of any progress si...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

This is very distressing for a lot of people for whom RFC has been an important part of their life for many, many years. Like me, I guess, obvs. I am pretty relaxed about it. I may be the only one left, but, head in sand maybe, I believe it'll all work out in the end. I'm similar, in that I do, for...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

Speaking of the press there will be a sudden interest from the mainstream media when suspension happens. The final 2 paragraphs of today's statement is an attempt to get out ahead of any criticism, they know what is about to happen and want to start setting the record straight before the press get ...

Mid Sussex Royal What was the 4th May date then? So do we in effect now have a month's notice from 22nd April?

That was the date released after the court case.

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

It still seems weird they didn't just extend the deadline by a month, as suspending us in three weeks would be no less messy than now. The ominous and completely unsubtantiated thought is they want to see concrete evidence of a sale by that date, or we'll be on notice to be kicked out on the 4th of ...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

Question about liquidation for someone smarter than me. Hasn't Couhig suggested the club can't be put into administration / liquidation without his say so because of the liens ... But if HMRC fail to get paid, don't they trump all creditors so could wind the club up unilaterally? Or is Couhig just ...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

I personally can criticise him for that because in my personal opinion he entered into due diligence period on a company and the deal fell through which happens in life but he isn't owed any actual money because he didnt lose any actual money. And now he's upset about missing out on a deal. Why is ...
