Re: Squad for 2025-2026

I'm getting the impression that life in L1 is very much a case of basically doing a yearly squad rebuild. You can't really build long term, anyone young enough and developing well will take their shot at a step up to the champ. I'm really grateful we have a pipeline of promising youngsters coming t...

Re: Team photo

If more players don't accept the contract extension, the remaining players will be able to go to Thorpe Park and get the team photo from that rubber dinghy rapids ride.

Re: Rumour- Chem Campbell permanent

His play style seemed to change quite substantially once Selles left. Previously, he has been keen to take on a defender and use his pace to pelt forward, whereas under Hunt, he seems to hesitate slightly when he gets the ball. Makes me think he's a bit low on confidence at the moment, but clearly d...

Re: Charlie Savage to Wrexham

Whilst I wouldn't blame him at all for going, especially to a Welsh team, it would be a big loss to see him go. He's one of the players I was hoping we could build a squad around for the future.

Re: Squad for 2025-2026

Allowing Holzman to leave is a risky strategy. Seems to me like we're banking on Mbengue staying. If Mbengue doesn't sign, then we're down another CB again, with Bindon returning to forest.

Re: Noel Hunt Confrimed

Even moreso because you just know he's going to end up at a rival league 1 club like Wycombe or Bristol rovers and end up kicking our arses. Hull was not the right club to go to. You could see that from how they sacked Rosenior, absolute joke. Their chairman is another basket case, I can't help but ...

Re: G’arn then, somebodies got to….In Praise of Dai Yoonge

Was it him that got the club badge on a formula 1 car? That was pretty cool. I have to add that absolutely delicious burrito stand outside the ground on match days, that was a superb decision. Best chicken burrito I've had outside of the town centre. He would have had a solid 8 out of 10 from me if ...

Re: Rumour - Jordan Gabriel (defender)

I'm quite impressed with Blackpool, they beat us pretty comprehensively twice this season whilst barely breaking out of second gear. I'm rating them to do well next year. I'm not against signing players from them.

Re: Early expectations for next season

Might not be the year just yet, i think too many of our prized assets will have shown their value and I'm not confident we can fight off the lure of championship football. I'm gonna go ahead an assume we lose Knibbs, Periera and Mbengue to championship clubs and assume that we are not able to get Bi...

Re: Squad for 2025-2026

At the current moment in time, its hard to see us being much more than a stepping stone for a lot of our players. And to their credit, most (if not all) of the current squad have paid us back in effort and performance, more than we have invested in them. And if they can get a move to a championship ...

Re: Predictions for this weekend

I'm really not feeling hopeful ahead of this at all. I can either see Orient going 1-0 up early on and us just playing out a dull draw with a resigned but satisfied crowd, or I can see Orient drawing and us losing 1-0 late on.

Re: Promotion thread 2024/25

I'm actually relieved that we aren't in the playoff spot as it stands. It feels better challenging for it from outside and maybe nicking it, than to have it in your own hands to lose. I get flashbacks to how tough it felt the year Sir Steve's team got relegated and we lost about 8 must-win games in ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wrexham (h)

It looked like a harsh decision. Tbh, i felt the ref was poor second half: I don't think the penalty was a genuine foul, it just looked like two players getting close to each other and it seemed like Pereira asked to take the kick, so really wasn't it him that was time wasting, not Stickland? I thou...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wigan Athletic (a)

I feel like I owe Noel an apology. I was disappointed when Selles left and I didn't think Noel would keep us at the quality we were playing before. I have to eat those words, I think we're overall we're potentially better. We're a little more direct now which looks less fancy overall, but we look fa...

Re: Hunt v Selles - what's changed?

Yeah, not blaming Selles for wanting out, but I felt like we had a connection with him and the players and then him choosing to leave basically broke that. I do agree that we seem to have lost a lot of energy in our play. The high press has gone which gives our opponents a lot more time on the ball ...

Re: What records do Reading FC hold

Sutekh The record for “scoring” the most league non-goals:

Watford (a) 2008-09
Rochdale (h) 1975-76

Would this also mean an ex-Reading player has the record for not-scoring the most non-goals? Assuming someone was credited with scoring both of those goals

Re: What records do Reading FC hold

We did go some extraordinary number of minutes played without scoring a corner for a while (about a decade ago now), did we get some kind of record for that?

Re: MATCHWATCH : Burton Albion (a)

To be fair to Hunt, anyone in his job right now has absolutely nowhere to hide. There's no hiding behind some expensive transfers, no yearly refresh of players, there's no blaming the previous coach. It's purely down to tactics, training and man management. He's still inexperienced at first team man...

Re: January transfer window

Actually you make a good point. The young players need the experienced players to help them develop. Wing is probably the ideal tutor for savage and Craig, Yiadom for Dorset and Abrefa etc. Either way, it doesn't feel like we have a great deal of long term future prospects. It's frustrating that our...
