Mid Sussex Royal Definately Town End - Tilehurst End terrace was much larger
and higher always was

and how many stand ends were truncated by a road followed by a distant terraced house.

The Tylehurst (south) end had terracing leading to the quiet bit of the Southbank, a few pence would gain you a transfer and solace from the rain through the meagre turnstile.

Great pic of 2 Legends.

Great day that was. Full house (?) or was it? And blisteringly hot (they were giving out free water.)
1st and only time I went to a football match with my sis.

Those were the days

I was behind that goal sporting a recently broken collarbone and was in agony every time someone so much as moved a muscle. The reputation of the United skinheads caused a complete abdication of the south-bank that day.

I remember that game - I was on bloody holiday with my parents in Bognor - but it was on the telly! In colour! And the track around the pitch showed up more orange than Dave Kitson's head.

Notice Steve Death's height - or lack of it. And the fact that he wasn't wearing gloves (ok, common in those days, but still interesting). And the absolutely exquisite socks!

Ah - that pic sent the memories flooding back all right.

I was sitting on the wall at the back of the South bank near the loos.I recall a few smashed cars on my walk to the game.
Normally I used to sit on the wall at the town end and would have been in that pic.If only I had known then that I would be posting on hobnob...bugger eh. :?

Alan Hardaker, the man who ran the Football League between 1951 and 1977, was no fan of European football. "Too many wogs and dagoes," he once charmlessly explained
How times have changed.

Wouldn't get an opposition player handing a goalie the ball these days. Football, replacing Sportsmanship with Gamesmanship since 1992*.

*Ok so that's probably unfair on the PL and Sky.
