BBC Predictor Thingy

by The Prisoner » 14 Mar 2011 23:23

Just did it. We don't make the play offs.

Final standings:
1 QPR 96 pts
2 Swansea 86 pts
3 Cardiff 85 pts
4 Norwich 84 pts
5 Leeds 77 pts
6 Leicester 76 pts
7 Reading 73 pts
8 Forest 73 pts
9 Burnley 72 pts
10 Hull 70 pts

Bottom 3 as is

That is based on Barnsley (A) W, Portsmouth (H) D, PNE (H) W, Forest (A) L, Scunthorpe (A) W, Leicester (H) D, Leeds (A) D, Sheff U (H) W, Coventry (A) D, Derby (H) W

Turn the draw at home vs Leicester into a win and who knows? We never seem to beat Pompey.

TBF we have the easiest run in of the play off hopefuls - only 3/10 games left for us are against rivals, whilst the others spend a lot of time playing each other. Forest have 6 games left against play off/auto contenders out of their 9 for example. What do I know? Sweet FA.

Killed 10 minutes.

QPR

QPR to be deducted points to take them to 4th, and lose in the play offs

Well, if we're gonna make the play-offs we are finally going to have to win some difficult games against the better teams in the Championship.

As well as beating all the lesser teams. It will be a tall order but it can be done, but only if the players go all out and make it happen.

I doubt we'll finish above Norwich. They seem to have the right attitude and spirit that will take them all the way. And Grant Holt looks a really good front man.

He's potentially only one tackle away from injury or suspension. Which is why there are waaaaaay too many variables to be able to confidentially predict what will happen in such a complex game.

On the subject of suspension of players who teams utterly depend upon, how many yellow cards does Long have?

He seems to pick one up every couple of games. Is he coming up to a possible suspension soon?

RFC can't get 80 points. If we win them all we'll have 81, draw one and it drops to 79. </pedant mode>

We've got 30 points to play for (10 games) - that means if we win them all we'll have 84.

Don't think Long actually picks up that many Dirk. If I was at home I Could tell you straight away, but at a guess I think he's had about 3 in the league all season, not so sure about cup.

Isn't there some sort of cut off date where early ones are ignored?

Edit: 4 cards (3 in league 8) ), first one being 20 November against Watford.

Going by the OS, Long has so far picked up 4 yellow cards this season (3 in the league and 1 in the cups).

The thresholds for bans are (IIRC):

5 yellows by the end of December
10 yellows by the end of February
15 yellows by the end of the season

The cut-offs changed recently (moved slightly earlier in the season) so the above is only a vague idea but essentially it means that Long will be unable to get a ban through accumulating yellow cards this season.

Fair enough - I remember him getting one at Sheffield Utd and one on Sunday, and I just had that perception that he tends to get booked more than many other strikers do - usually because he's always contesting the ball.

But obviously my perception was wrong ....

QPR 91
Norwich 89
RFC 80
Cardiff 80
Swansea 79
Burnley 74

I'm normally reasonably accurate... fingers crossed :P
