Svlad Cjelli Manset didn't have a great game, but one of the biggest problems wasn't of his making.
He indirectly caused it just be being sent on - because we have the perennial problem that as soon as we have a bigun up front all we can do is hoof the ball up to him - it's the path of least resistance for those at the back. No need to be inventive or creative - just hoof it and it's someone else's problem.
We're a much better much more creative team when we're passing it around and playing it via the wings - but as soon as there's someone big to aim at we don't bother with that.
So Manset had a lot more of the ball - and a lot more responsibility with it - than he should have done. He'd gone from supporting Long to being the focus of all our play.
Agree with that. Quite why teams do it I dont know but we're not alone in hoofing to a big man. However, I think we were superior in the first half with Robson-Kanu all over them. The hoofing partly came from having only one, heavily marked outlet, in McAnuff in the 2nd half. FAir play to Noel he put a shift in but we did play long ball in the last 30 mins. With Kebe or HRK we might not be so guilty of this.
That said when Manset comes on he is pretty good at getting the ball and laying it off. I think its esier as the defence aren't used to it. From the start they dont let him get going.
That said our defence looked like it could handle Chropra and Bothroyd all day long. But not Bellamy :-s
