LE Fondre "Man Utd threw me out when I was seven"

From Sunday's Sun (Formerly News of The Screws) -

ADAM LE FONDRE relishes life as a Premier League star — after being dumped on the scrapheap by Manchester United aged just SEVEN.
That was the heartbreaking moment his boyhood heroes dismissed the starry-eyed hopeful as ‘lazy’.
But Le Fondre, 25, fought back the tiny tears and used the criticism to spur him on to make it in the hardest game of all.
The Reading striker said: “When I was seven I played Under-9s for United.
“I trained with them for six weeks and played in a trial match where I scored a hat-trick.
“But they pulled me aside afterwards and said I was too lazy!
“I think it was Wilf McGuinness who said it.
“I remember being in the shower crying and afterwards my dad, a Man United nut, said to me ‘What have you done?’
“We didn’t ask them for an explanation, we were just told it would be better for me to get my football elsewhere.
“As a kid I modelled myself on United legend Eric Cantona.
“I used to strut around the pitch with my collar up just like him.
“I loved his arrogance — but my dad soon knocked that out of me.
“But I wouldn’t be where I am without him — he was a massive influence on me.
“I would score six goals and he’d have me in tears afterwards, telling me I had made too many mistakes or I had to work on my left foot.
“He wasn’t a great player himself but he instilled a drive in me to get better and made sure I played my own game. He told me I was not Cantona!”
Determined Le Fondre — nicknamed Alfie — picked himself up after being written off and made it through the youth ranks at home-town club Stockport County.
He continued his career at Rochdale and Rotherham before joining Reading for £350,000 in August 2011.
Last season, he bagged 12 goals for the Royals as they won the Championship title.
And he stuck two fingers up at Old Trafford with a point-saving penalty in the season opener against Stoke on his Premier League debut.
Alfie added: “We play United on December 1 — the day before my birthday — so that’s a good present.
“I want to show everyone how good I am because I’m sure a lot of clubs who watched me thought I had something missing.
“If you had told me 12 months ago I’d now be in the Premier League I’d have laughed in your face.
“I was playing League Two football last August, so to have risen to this level is a dream come true. It shows that hard work does pay off.
“I’d love to score against United, it’s every boy’s dream to score at Old Trafford.
“But I’m a United fan, so I’d prefer to score a winner at the Etihad.”

2 points of this article sum up why this paper is rubbish:

I don't see how he's stuck two fingers up at Man Utd by scoring for his team from the penalty spot. Unlikely they'll be gutted to have lost ALF.

Jon Parkin appears in EA SPORTS FIFA13 as do many other footballers surprisingly. Shameless advertising and hardly worth announcing either.

i suppose at that age united wanted a double hattrick...it seems weird if he did score a hattrick that they told him he was "lazy".

Knowing LeFondre, though, he probably just tapped in someone else's goal bound shot. Gotta love him.
