Schards#2 Much improved performance that augers well for the rest of the season. As players return from injury, the likes of Kuhl, Taylor, Edwards, Tanner etc can take a step back but will have benefitted from the first team experience. With the addition of Williams and with Obita pushed forward, we looked a far more balanced and potent attacking force and could easily have scored 5-6 despite not turning up for 30 minutes. The defence is still a concern but if Ferdinand could get and stay fit I'm sure he'd improve it as he's likely to be solid at this level and bring some lacking experience.

15 goals in the last 6 home games, if we can tighten the defence up (which is an easier job than finding a way of scoring) and take the game to teams more away from home, there are potentially good times ahead. Interesting to note that Williams, Cox, Murray, Ferdinand and Mackie, all Adkins signings, all looked the part last night. Maybe 'fans' should stop moaning, start coming to games and get behind the manager and team as we come out of a period of uncertainty, rebuilding and injury problems and look to kick on with a decent squad. I've not been to many away games this season but at home it's entertaining, exciting football with lots of goals from a team that appears united and committed, what's not to like?

+1

Ian Royal Hang on Gunter was at left back? Bloody hell I need to concentrate harder on who's who.

You lost all credibility there ....

Yeah, massive oxf*rd up on my part. Can't see the numbers or names clearly enough so tend to just rely on where players are on the pitch and body shape etc. It never even occurred to me to look carefully to see what side Gunter and Kelly were on. I thought Kelly looked quicker and more adventurous!

Gunter definitely much improved.

floyd__streete Gr8 result. Sensible team selection. Saw the goals on SKY, gr8 strikes.

Disappointing to see crowds continuing to fall though.

Somebody who did not go to the game is dissapointed that crowds continue to fall LOL.

Attendances fall for team in bad form on a November Tuesday night when the combined away attendance for the last two home games is unlikely to be over 600 and the team is in its second worst position for about 15 years shocker.

He never had any.....

Jokes Ian. It must have been a little bit confusing because Kelly is a right back wearing no3 (traditionally a LB's number) and Gunter wears no2 (RB number) and was playing on the left.

They actually swapped positions during the game

Really disappointing that after a fantastic run that had taken him clear into the left side of their area and well placed to score, Gunter bottled it and passed to Cox who inexplicably then tried to return the ball to Gunter! Should have been a fantastic goal from Gunter and, failing that, he should have been getting the praise for setting Cox up to score. Instead Rotherham took advantage of our charity and cleared the danger!

Was Murray, not Cox, but was a great run from Gunts, should've just put his foot through it.

Mental weakness strikes again. Even though I originally thought it was Kelly.

SCIAG In fairness to Ian, I really struggle to tell a lot of our players apart too. Gunter and Kelly aren't among them, but Norwood, Mackie and Cox? That's confusing, and the main reason I want to see Kuhl in the team.

I don't have much more to add. There were some really nice moves last night which hopefully put to bed all the "we can't play in Adkins' style!" complaints. We'll be frighteningly good with McCleary in the side.

Glad you posted this as I thought it was just me! I have to look at the boots or those three seem very similar.

It may also explain some people's players scores!

Ian Royal
Ian Royal Lovely stuff.

Didn't play particularly well until the second went in but Rotherham didn't offer a lot to threaten us. What a difference the first goal and some confidence can do.

Fed largely untroubled
Gunter didn't show anything to suggest he's getting better
Kelly good but I don't fancy him at left back against a decent attack
Pearce good
Ferdinand seemed fine
Norwood good but he's got sloppy since he started with us
williams so glad he's back
mackie gave them no end of trouble
obita fine needs to improve his crossing again
cox good stuff
murray needs to learn to stay onside and spot when his card is marked as a fouler.

hector good
akpan good
taylor no time

Gunter definitely much improved.

Specsavers should set up a mobile unit outside the Madejski by the looks of it.

Bit late but good result on tuesday. Was set to be the most boring game ever until we scored then we got it together a bit. WE've certainly got some very good footballers but theyre just lacking a bit of self-belief it seems.

Williams and ferdinand both really added something to the team. Was particularly impressed with anton, for a player who hasnt played in 10 months he looked very good - loved it when he turned there striker after a poor pass back to him! Williams needs a few more games to be up to speed but has that energy we've been missing.

Mackie was MoM for me. Worked hard, beat his man time after time and got the goal he deserved. Cox close after after another great performance from him. POTS so far.

Norwood was excellent as well. Some great passing and really breaks up play well. Would loved that free kick to have gone in! For a little man he really controls the centre of the park and has such composure on the ball. I really hope him and williams stay fit coz i dread the day akpan gets back in time. Thought he was pants when he came on, missed the same tackle 3 times at one point and ran round like a headless chicken. I want to support him but hes had two years to prove himself now and I cant name a stand out performance.

Everyone else played there part well. Not sure why all the gunter hype suddenly, thought he was exceedingly average at left back and still has a tendency to play hoof ball or slice the ball up into the air. Anyone else would have been dropped by now but clearly an adkins favourite. Obita was good in front but still think i prefer him as a full back. Certaily when GMac is back it would be good to see him and obita link up down the left. However I did enjoy the link up betwween norwood, obita and muraay/cox(cant remember which) down the left at one point in the second half which almost lead to goal. Really showed what the players are capable of with a bit of confidence.

All in all plenty of positives, minimal negatives, bring on the addicks!

Schards#2 ......., what's not to like?

The 9 games in between this match and the last match you posted a similar call to troops, which I believe was the Millwall game?? Even you must be concerned by the atmospheric desert the Madejski is currently operating under, which would seem to contradict your chirpiness?

(And LOL at Ferdinand having any influence on the game, and his injury after half an hour being any sort of example of Adkins' managerial ability)

Rotherham weren't all bad but had no strikers and dominated for long periods-strikers are the absolute key in this Division & prob in Prem.Everybody (even the Prem)-struggles to find the centre halves required.

Feds: 6 Had very little to do-average kicking & one fumble.

Kelly : 6 Rock solid but offers little going forward-however if he can keep us solid at the back should stay in the team.
Gunt: 6 One unsure moment first half-but generally solid.
Anton: 8 Great start ; but injured from about 15 mins in-lets hope it is not a long term problem-a real asset to the team.
Pierce : 7 One of his best days & I am usually dead against him.
Norwood : 6 Not one of his best days; but always available for a pass.
Williams : 6 Clearly not match fit hardly in the game.
Mackie : 7 Very good-don't know why some fans take against him-him & Macca either flank should be something special.
Obita : 6 Is he really an out & out winger, or more a wing back- never beats his man-but effectively shored up defensively left hand side-good & poor deliveries.
Cox : 7 Was having an absolute mare-but the popped up to score two very well taken goals-perhaps that's just his game these days.
Murray : 6 Has a lot of class-but painfully slow (not as slow as Pog) a real pro-works the central defenders but wont go the extra mile for the team & a bit of a moaner.

Hector : 5 Some horrible slices.
Akpan : 4 Usual.

Adkins: Give our defensive problems he really should look at putting three in midfield-but I suppose Cox is meant to pitch in.

Referee: Poor but I have seen worse-booking Akpan & the missed corner in the 2nd half were really bad.

Crowd: Was that the lowest attendance of the season ? Presumably the Arsenal fans (Arsenal on telly) stayed away.

Read the thread. I thought he was Kelly and took my shaming. Clearly if I was rating him on what someone else did when i realise my mistake my view is going to change somewhat, no?
