Sun Tzu
BR2 BTW both he and Bertrand may know each other from being on loan at Bournemouth which could be good news both on and off the pitch.

We had Pearce, Karajan, Henry and someone else who's name escapes (Goldbourne ?) me on loan at Bournemouth not long ago.

We could have a team who have more starts for Bournemouth than they have for us !

The Bertrand/Mills (didn't that used to be a circus?)time was the year before those IIRC but you make a fair point.
BTW Bournemouth have an embargo currently where they can't even make loan signings and the assistant manager has re-registered as a player because of the shortage of numbers.

Perhaps Frank Snr could be persuaded to register in case we run short of midfielders !!

PEARCEY

Sun Tzu Karajan,

Who is this guy?

You missed Goldbourne

I'll let him off on that one as he'd put a question mark next to the name as if he wasn't sure!

Be interesting how much other clubs offered him. You'd think the way Forest have been throwing cash around they would have made Mills a better offer. I like to think that Mills was excited about what Rodgers is trying to build here.

Prob turn out we just outbid everyone!!

Great signing though, Mills and Pearce could be a paring for a long time, think Bikey will be on his way, I can't see us splashing £2m on arguably our strongest position. A striker and defensive mid would very nice now, will be happy with just striker though...

Royal Lady Is he a Russian composer?

Close. Herbert von Karajan, Austrian conductor (and Nazi sympathiser).
Can't see how he would fit into our formation, particularly as he is dead. (I know we are expecting BR to work miracles, but that might be asking a bit much ...)

Agree SKDD, although I still think we could do with a winger as well once you take into account Hunts expected departure. Unless we lose a central midfielder or two I'd make a winger a higher priority to spend our money on at the moment.

A collection of Kebe, Robson-Kanu, Henry, Church and Noel Hunt doesn't fill me with a lot of hope. I'd prefer to see one more 'proven' player with a bit of quality to command a starting place with the youngsters to push and cover for them. Kebe to me has proven that he's not quite up to the job, so as it stands we've still not addressed one of our most significant personel issues from last season.

Admittedly a change in style and formation might address it a little, and we have Robson-Kanu and Henry to take a punt on, but I'd much rather see a bit of reliable quality at the top of the pecking order too.

I imagine Cisse and gunnar will share it, Gunnar is the better player but doesn't have the legs for every game as we all know.

From what I've read on the Donny forums, Mills hasn't had a full pre-season under his belt, so he may be lacking a bit of fitness/match practice, so i'd still expect Cisse to start Saturday.

Out of 5 pre-season games Mills has only played 45 minutes, the first half away at Barrow on 18th July.

Alan Partridge Of all the things you could have used, you used that.
LOL!!!!

Agreed

But, there seems to be several 1st eleven squad numbers, including No5, that haven't been alocated and this certainly smacks of a manager who has thrown out Coppell's status quo with the bath water.

BTW, I hope Ivar makes an excellent recovery but he's had his share of cr@p performances and isn't getting any younger. This potential signing suggests to me that we are FINALLY!!!! moving on from 2005-6.

Just the fact SJM is still prepared to sanction £2m being spent one player should excite all genuine fans.

We have to trust our manager's judgement on whether (should it go threw) this proves to be a good deal but right now I'm impressed.

I wonder what Doncaster's sell-on clause will be when we sell him to Arsenal for £8m in a couple of years' time.

Best keep stum until his name is firmly on a Reading FC contract.

Arsenal simply do not spend that much on English players.

You mean apart from the £5m rising to £12m they paid for Theo Walcott??

I'd still like Cambell - Ryce personally and he wouldn't cost that much. Need to get rid of Hunty now, shirley as swap for Nuggent is too much to ask for, Pompey are very short on strikers and just missed out on the Croatian lad.

I don't think Bryn has the legs or Cisse is anywhere near good enough to play such a massive role. Harper's the one that should be playing defensive mid, did it well under Pards. But you just wonder which Harps will turn up this season.

Ah but Mr Bedding, people on here aren't just "talking" about him, they're planning on what the team will be like with him playing and saying how great it is that Mr Mad has actually been prepared to spend £2 million on him - until it's a done deal, it means zilch.

Oh and RR - ALOL at Jaap Stum!!

I think you need to do your homework my boy. I'll think you'll find Theo Walcott cost around that sum and more with add ons, and the young lad from Cardiff last season, £5m innitally and that also increases later.
