Cureton's Volley LoyalRoyal22 misses the point again. The reason they were talking in that manner was because the players were not acting as if they knew what formation to be in, or even if they did, exactly where to be positioned and where that would be in relation to team mates.

From my perspective it was not as clear cut as you made out because in the first half for the 1st 20 mins we played more of a 4-5-1 with the wingers out wide hitting the byline, but after that they stayed forward and tucked in tight for a more narrow traditional 4-3-3. Second half there was hardly any structure for either team as it got pretty desperate, and formations became even more fluid towards the final whistle.

sandman Boo, LoyalRoyal22, boo.

We should definitely get this chant started next match...

You've got it all wrong

It's but semantics, dear: 4-3-3 ≈ 4-5-1 ≈ 4-2-3-1

Just saying it was not as clear cut as you made out.

What was clear however, was we were gash however you crumble the cookie. I also believe you may well have been better in charge than Nige. At least you appear to have some passion and fight about you.

And why the feck are we changing our formation *at home* to suit the opposition? We should play our strongest formation regardless of the opposition and let them deal with us, not the other way round.

By not playing our strongest formation and changing it to suit the opposition, we are surely already handing them an advantage as it allows them to play their game and we are having to play a different way.

But then I have been drinking and I don't know much about football.

LoyalRoyal22 First half was 433. Second half was a diamond.

That is all.

And both were equally ineffective.

No, Guthrie sitting, Obita to the left & Williams to the right. Then front 3 with Sharp in between Hal & Gmac

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
And I'm wondering what it is I should do,
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

The formation was not obvious to fans and players alike, at any point

Except after Alfie came on and we were 3-2-5

And then we scored, amazing what happens when the players understand the tactics.

LoyalRoyal22 Only thing majority RFC fans can understand is 442 hoofball

I think it would be wise to learn how to use grammar before posting your awful opinions again.

To reply anyway, Mick Gooding is a former manager and would seemingly know more about football than any of us, so if he cannot understand what Adkins is doing then perhaps Nigel is struggling.

I'm guessing the people who were unhappy with formation change are the same that moaned about the winning performance with 442 on Tuesday night..

....what, scraping a 1-0 win against a lowly Charlton side who could have easily got a point out of it?

Thrilling.

Tim Dellor and Mick Gooding cant work out what formation we are playing, it was 433 first half, how is that difficult to work out? Its a common/modern formation. Pretty much sums up most Reading fans, poor knowledge of the game.

You sure?

I thought first half was 4-2-3-1, with Sharp the loan striker, and the three 'wingers' playing behind him, with Hal in the middle of the three but swapping with the other two on a regular basis as they moved inside.

That's what I saw it as and what it most looked like. It wasn't the personnel I would have chosen to play that way though, but then I'm starting to think either NA hasn't a clue what he's doing or half the squad are not good enough for what NA is trying to achieve here.

It was quite clearly 4-3-3

Yeah, Gooding has an excellent CV in management.

By the way, as I cant find anywhere else to ask this .....

Why, oh why, oh why etc.... do BBC Radio Berkshire allow Tim Dellor to interview Nigel Adkins? Please? really please? he knows as much about the tactical side of football as my backside (HE IS A FAN NOT A FOOTBALLER) so "probing" questions by him after the game to Nige were fobbed off like someone swotting a fly.

Get Gooding or Williams to ask the questions and stop Nige if he, as he did on Saturday, go on some ramble.

I'm not sure it's that easy to stop him rambling!
