Lord be praised. Will he want more tea it we win though?

No, he'd simply be happy with a selfie with his favourite ex-player - Simon Church

He also likes Nelson Abbey

Would be a cardinal sin if we do not rev up the pun count

I wonder if he lives his life vicariously

With the season ahead not likely to provide a promotion push I would like the club, for a change, to take this sort of game seriously.
A couple of cup runs would be very acceptable and with other clubs not playing their best sides there is a chance to make some progress and with a longish run a chance to make some much needed money-remember our moderate side actually being one game away from an FA Cup final when the draw was kind to us.

The only drawback is that, despite what others may have posted, we don't currently have a "strong" team so just the best that we can put out would IMHO be the way forward.
We really don't now have to save players for League matches.

Think you’ve hit the nail there with there not being a ‘strong’ team

Positions are up for grabs throughout so would definitely rotate a fair bit with a that being the point - see who is fit and on form. The whole defence could easily be replaced, we’re expecting new midfielders and forwards in. So think it’s a case of playing players who didn’t play that much on Sat and see who is looking any good

Something like

Bouzanis/Jokull
Abrefa Dean Dorsett Carson
Savage Mbengue
Rushesha Azeez
Ehibhatiomhan Knibbs

Gk, Craig, McIntyre, Holmes, Senga, Jahmari, NGW

Would work for me

Despite the problems, at this early stage I think the club will still be eyeing a potential promotion push, and want to get minutes in legs of those not quite ready yet.

By the FA Cup, if we're nowhere then I'd agree go all out for a morale lifting run.

I'd just like to add I have an irrational hatred of people describing a formation as 4-2-2-2.

It's not a thing. It's never been a thing. We don't shape up like that.

So, do you honestly believe that a hotch potch of players that we end up with is likely to be making a challenge at the end of the season?
If so, Selles will be regarded as a miracle worker and I doubt that he is.

Why not have more of a go in the cup competitions and do like we have done in the past when in the 3rd division and hope for a game or two against some of the bigger teams?

After so many years when we haven't bothered (apart from that season v Arsenal) wouldn't it just be a nice change to see us have a go?
You never know, we might end up playing Arsenal again in a semi-final which would make the season worthwhile having endured watching such illustrious sides as Stevenage, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham et al..

Likely? Probably not.

But the hodge potch team largely matched Posh. Yiadom, Wing and Carroll had barely any pre-season. Savage and Rushesha were only confirmed signed the day before.

I certainly wouldn’t be ruling anything out before we've played about 20 games to be honest.

Just the Academy lads looked fairly handy. Ehib, Camara, Vickers, Azeez - didn’t look out of place.

Based on one game with potentially 6 more incomings? define hotch potch please if we have half a new team in a months time.

I think we'll be a slow burner this season - we may start off a bit shaky, but will improve as the season goes on: younger players will develop, players will start to understand the system, players will start to understand each other, players will get fitter (hopefully), etc.

If we're broadly level with sides who'll be challenging for the play-offs already, we could have a good season. Although it's possible Peterborough aren't as good as we think.

As you say "probably not" so let's give cup games some serious attention rather than making a token effort and if we come good in the division then even better.

Why give up on a competition after 1 game?

I think he's saying that he'd like us to try and have a cup run but let's just have have an argument while we're at it.

I don't think he's basing his prediction on the one game. I believe he's looking at the makeup of the squad and the current position of the club.

To be fair, ever since we've been relegated from the PL, we've had some pretty favourable ties in the FA Cup. Semi final vs Arsenal, QF I think was the season after as well? Had a couple of draws against Man United away that, whilst boring, is still better than what a lot of teams get as well. Obviously the embarrassment at Kidderminster was a disaster, but I'd say we've had it better than most teams outside the PL in the FA Cup at least anyway. That's when you factor in cup runs, upsets, big ties etc. I suspect most outside the PL would love what we've had. (Yes I know this is the LC but the point is we've had some good cup experiences for a club outside the PL.)

Take the point though, it would be nice to have another good cup run, especially in a competition which has gained a reputation for upsets as the better sides in the country don't always take too seriously in the earlier rounds.

Where we are as a club at this time, tonight can be viewed as the last (and most competitve) of the pre-season friendlies; more game time for some players, the chance to develop understandings with new team mates on the pitch and the chance to introduce new players into the side.

We all want a great cup run but even at this stage, their is a bigger picture to look at here.
