By far and away the worst ref we've had this season.

I'd go as far as to say the worst ref I've ever seen at the Mad Stad.

Can anyone clarify what happened with their first goal?

Bloke who scored was definitely ahead of the last man, ball comes in, flag goes up. Sorted.

The only thing that I can think is that the referee saw (thought he saw) the ball last being played by a Reading player and over ruled. I didn't see this - did anyone else?

in post match interview McD said it was a goal, the ball came off Griffin before going to the player to score

the winger played the ball away from goal towards the edge of the box, but Griffin deflected the ball forward, correct call from the ref IMO.

If it's a deflection it isn't a goal. You can only score from an offside position if it's from a pass by the defending team. Wrong call and Mr Graham should be spending next weekend shopping with his wife.

Spot on about the deflection thing, but I called straight away that he was onside anyway because the ball wasn't played forwards in the first place.

I hope I'm wrong to be honest, always nice to have someone to blame. We shall see on the wonderous football league show later on.

Personally I think that once the deflection is made it negates the direction of the original pass because the deflection means the player is still gaining an unfair disadvantage.

Maybe as some have said he wasn't offside in the first place in which case it doesn't matter but we will just have to wait and see.

That's not the rule though.

It should be.

I didn't say it was I just meant that that is what I think should happen to simlify the rule. Didn't word it properly.

1. He was onside anyway
2. As I said, ball was played backwards, making the deflection irrelevant.

Actually if you look at it again Forte gets to the byline and comes back into the play and passes it FORWARDS it then takes a DEFLECTION and the player scores from an offside position. You are right that the guy was onside when the pass was played however.

He was also onside (i.e. level) when it took the deflection (watch it on pause on BBC iPlayer).

(Incidentally, original pass was not played forwards - it went about 20 degrees backwards.)
