I totally agree Dirk, but when you've got an MP who isn't sure about supporting the bill in the Commons "because of danger at football matches" or whatever guff Redwood came out with, then I suspect this argument is going to drag on and on.

I'll post info for MPs over the next few weeks.

Toon Toon Blue army I don't really get the whole some people can't physically stand up etc etc.

Surely if you had a problem which prevented you from standing you would be eligible to get seats in the disabled section?

And to be fair it's not just the young, old and disabled. I was struggling to stand for long periods, several months after a knee operation this season. I can't imagine I was in line for an orange badge but it was still uncomfortable.

(but completely agree with the safe-standing areas argument)

Being Scottish and somewhat of an authority on sheep-shagging I would like to remind all you non-sexually-deviated-ruminating-quadroped-a-phobics that we (and our celtic cousins from wales) no longer shag sheep, we now use a calfs nostril as it licks your balls at the same time, keep up with the times guys

Are you as sympathetic to people in "real life". Imagine that you're, say, 76 years old, in fairly good health, but find standing for long periods of time painful. Do you think you should be classed as disabled? Or do you think that, maybe, you'd like to sit for the game? God help you when you're older.

I wasn't having a dig at anyone. I have a cousin who is disabled, but anyway that’s not the point.

Surely if you have a broken pelvis like someone mentioned earlier, you could sit in the disabled section? At Thorpe Park for example, if you have a broken ankle which makes it hard to stand for long periods, they let you skip ques. Maybe a bit of an odd comparison.

And at Cardiff, I had two 70+ people in front of me who stood up for the whole game, and they loved it. I’m not being unsympathetic, just trying to suggest alternatives for people who can't physically stand and want to watch a match. The argument, of course, goes back to allowing "safe standing" areas..

if theres some kid or oldie behind me i will try my hardest to sit most of the time if they ask me nicely, thats fair enough.
but there were people, straight after the first whistle, physically manhandling people and pushing people down into their seats, without having said a thing to them, after literally 6 seconds of the game.

and getting a fellow fan thrown out of the playoff final for that shizzle is shameful.
dont care what anyone says

Well, as Schards pointed out, we got tickets in the upper tier, SPECIFICALLY to avoid having loads of people stood in front of us. And we didn't have anyone stand in front of us, except when we were about to score/had scored/etc

westendgirl
Avon Royal It's a pity that some people on this thread don't put as much energy into supporting the team as they do into defending their right to sit in silence.

The posts that have been the most sensible are not those defending the right to be silent but the responsibility of thinking of others - so those who insisted on standing despite requests to sit some of the time and those who asked Radidbee to sit when he was only standing at exciting times are both intolerant.

I constantly have this arguement with my mother who goes to every away game but cannot physically stand all game and takes too long to stand up that when all around her stand the action is over by the time she gets to her feet. At Liverpool she was suffering with a cracked pelvis but still went despite the snow and now comments that at least it was on the box to be recorded so she could see the bits she missed (the best action of course). She tries to get a seat where it won't matter but it is not always easy. She first went to see Reading in the 1940s so I think she can out loyal some of the swearers but she needs to allow some standing just as the standers should allow her to see some of the game.

I thinks this quote sums up everything really and outlines how we SO need to go back to splitting grounds up. I for one go to football mainly for the atmosphere and the adrenalin it brings so for that reason I choose to stand and sing as much as possible. however i totally understand where westendgirl is coming from. Does this not show you that there should be stands designated for "standing and singing"(or whatever you want to class it as) and others for familys etc. This would get rid of all this arguing and would keep everyone happy. Even away days all the ticket office need to do is allow you to choose front or back of the stand. Everyones happy!!

This is what we did. I didn't particularly want seats in block 546 and would have preferred to be nearer the half-way line but we got seats in the front row which was great. You just have to compromise.

It's a good point RL.

I'm 26, fairly healthy and fit and even I get sore feet and legs standing all the game! Haha. I still do it but I guess an elderly person must really struggle.

Maybe the solution is to install high chairs, Those who want to sit will be able to see over those who choose to stand.

I must confess I really lost my temper at some bloke behind me. Called him every name under the sun after he physically tried to pull me back to sit me down just after our second goal. I wouldn't have minded if it was in open play, I think that's fair enough, but just after we've scored? Jog on mate.

Anyway, I'd felt like I was completely justified in my rant until he pointed out that I had just gone ballistic in front of his young son, who was quite visibly upset. I felt like such a dick, but still think he made a very stupid move putting his hands on me. Thankfully, I'm more of a lover (and a crier) than a fighter, but if he'd done that to someone a bit more aggro he could have been laid out in front of his son.

Anyway, as he left (at around 80 minutes - the score was still 3-2) he suggested that I had ruined a family day out. If a family day out is going to be part of something you don't understand and don't really care about before manhandling those around you who do care and do understand, then I love ruining family days out.

This is what I hate about these days for fans of the club it's a massive game of football, for 90% it's a day of face painting silly wigs and jester hats who just want a family day out. In that case go to Legoland! I would rather we had 15,000 proper fans than 40,000 one game a season lot.

Just to put a few things into context - I've just been speaking to a Swansea fan, who could not believe how loud we were. And he went on ".....and when your 1st goal went in, I couldn't believe it - you were much louder than us"

Funny that. I thought Swansea sounded really loud. There are some great acoustics in that stadium.

As for standing up, it is a football match. Not the opera, ballet or theatre. There is, for want of a better expression, audience participation. But then the middle class happy clappys would never dream of reading anything on here. But just in case, here is a nice picture for them to enjoy

Said to the guys behind just to let me know if they wanted me to sit down. Started off standing, but there were some kids a couple of rows behind so was politely asked to sit down. No problem. Would have prefered to stand the whole game, but still a decent enough atmosphere and certainly no moaning or aggro when I was standing/celebrating.
