Jackson Corner Newport away 85 I had tickets for the darts at the Fulcrum theatre in Slough. On the plus side I did see John Lowe hit the first TV 9 darter. But would rather have seen us set the record.
One of my first away games. Felt like 4,000 of the 6,000 odd crowd there was from Reading. I remember being on the curved terrace behind the goal and different chants of where in Reading groups were from, Tilehurst boys we are here, followed by Woodley, Whitley, Southcote etc, don’t remember hearing that before or after, ever!
The M4 there and back was blue and white scarves out of car windows. The second goal, the ball looped up in the air and seemed to take forever to go in, in slow motion.
South Coast Royal, loved that Stockport home game between Christmas and New Year 93-94, cracking atmosphere on the South Bank and remember Archie was brilliant that day. Really did feel like we were watching the start of the journey to the modern day club we are now, a second tier club, not lower division scuffers just giving the football aristocracy a bloody nose in the cup from time to time! Shame about the daughters and granddaughters falling out of love with RFC, but hopefully not lost forever and is still there somewhere lying dormant, waiting for a spark.
