Dirk Gently Snowflake Royal Dirk Gently Carlisle have a big supporters base and an awful lot of them don't live in Carlisle any more (I mean, would you?

)
So I think people saying they'll not bring many are wrong - there are a good many London/South-based Cumbrians who'll jump at the chance to see their team play without a 600-mile round trip.
Obviously work is a big factor, but I thought it was ok when I went a few years ago. Not as nice as Hartlepool, streets ahead of Wolverhampton.
True enough. I think work is the deciding thing, but I have come across a pretty large number of Carlisle supporters down south - more than other clubs their size.
I think a lot of it is that they have a massive catchment area - next league club going South (excluding Barrow and Morecambe) is Preston, 80 miles away, and going East it's Newcastle 60 miles away. Going North into Scotland you've only got the likes of Annan, QotS and Gretna for 80 miles, so they effectively have all of Cumbria and the Lake District and the Western side of the Pennines as well as the immediate area around the city of Carlisle.
I went out for a few pints post-match 2023-24. The centre of Carlisle is nice and has some genuinely grand buildings towards the station. It all rapidly drops off, particularly down one side of the city centre (opposite to the football ground). There's none of the refurbished industry that spawns breweries/independents that you do find in other big cities.
The biggest thing I noticed was how busy it was 1700-1900, then it all dropped off a cliff. I imagine its because you're the only city in approaching 30 miles, but getting back home is going to be a nightmare. Get in early, get stuck in, get the last reasonably timed buses home?
Second thing was the accents - it's a wild ride from Scottish to Geordie to something in between.

Beautiful phrasing.
