WestYorksRoyal The reality is we're not ready for the season and the match reflected that. We all knew that before kick off so we learned little.

If they played like a bunch of strangers, it's because they were a bunch of strangers. The next week needs to be a big one for recruitment and squad building, otherwise we'll definitely have a slow start.

+1

I was thinking that Spain was a waste of time. I didn't see any pattern to the play, no high press, no interplay. Just a battle and hoofing. Predictably we lost the midfield battle, and rarely tested their defence.

Having said that 2-0 to us at half time wouldn't have been unfair, it seemed we missed an open goal and McIntyre put a free header wide. I wasn't clear on their goals, but one seemed to be a lucky deflection and the second a well taken shot right in the top corner.

The leaking of goals, and the lack of an attacking threat are the same familiar issues we had at start as last season. I think we'll struggle.

I agree with that. The Ehib miss (I'd want to see the highlights before saying how bad it was) and the header from the corner were our best chances and might have been scored on another day.

We still looked a bit lost when it came to the final third: often looking dangerous upon reaching the edge of the penalty area and then slowing the play down through lack of ideas as to what to do next, leading to the chance being lost or some tame effort from the edge of the box. This could be a cohesion thing, as there was a number of times where players played passes others weren't expecting or made runs which the player on the ball didn't seem to notice. It was certainly better than the Wimbledon game however.

Your analysis of their goals was what I saw - a deflected effort for the first and a strike no keeper could reasonably be expected to save for the second. Sutton didn't really threaten at all in the first half and I can't really remember them doing much in the second outwith their two goals.

I'd say Hutchinson really stood out to me in the first half, as did Azeez. Djorkaeff (or whoever had #7 on their shorts) was the player who I though had the most about him among the second side that played. It's hard to know how much to read into individual performances, especially from a single match.

Maybe I'm being a realist in that the season starts in 3 weeks and we don't look like scoring against teams that are almost non league? Maybe look at the facts and you'll understand.

This glaring fact appears to be forgotten by the apologists on here. We are scoring f+ck all and creating f+ck all against really shit rusty sides, and its not just a one off like Farnborough all those years ago, this looks like a pattern.
But don't worry, when Selles is gone in January another newbie mug will come in and lump ball to Carroll will no doubt be the main tactic once again.
I'll say it as I see it, unless we make some amazing signings, and as it stands, and I don't see us linked to anyone, we are gonna be a League 2 club next season. More worryingly Dai is looking for new investment....why is that? He is a billionaire isn't he? Or is he just gonna start lumbering us with more debt ala shades of West Brom.

He was a billionaire. He's not anymore.

I was told it was around 20 bill......if what your saying is true and he can no longer afford us as a project/hobby then that changes my whole thought process on him. I was kind of 80% out in my mind but now we are in dangerous territory where damage to the club can quickly deteriorate to the point where recovery will take years and the debt spirals to a level where administration is the only way out.

He really 100% needs to go.

Clyde1998 Be interesting to see who turns up tomorrow. Knibbs didn't play against Wimbledon, so he's the first obvious addition to the squad. I don't know how close Yiadom or Carroll are to being able to feature; don't know if CBC would be back from international duty yet. Could we see more trialists?

Would suggest that any senior outfield player currently on the clubs books that isn't involved today should form the first injury list of the new season. Reckon the obvious absentees will be Ejaria (off the pitch stuff still?) and Carroll (that injury from the end of last season).

The game will be covered by Tim on Berks (Ady is concentrating on an Ascot horse meet thing) so you can catch the latest news that he has as he struggles to recognise the players (which we probably all will if you're going given the high number of academy players and triallists likely to be involved).

Judging by his tweet, poor old Tim wasn't overly enamoured about having to slum it at Sutton v Reading!

World class racing and rowing the last few Saturdays - today it’s Sutton V

Down to his last $931M! :(

And about £200m of that is debt he owes himself.

Still considerably wealthier than SJM ever was? And considerably more than Anton 'Pocket Money' Zingarevich proved to be when he had difficulty getting money out of daddy's pocket!

Not especially, think SJM was up around £600m around 2006.

His comments on the performance were un-Timlike. Questioning whether the likes of Knibbs weren't the answer and how even surviving in League 1 may be hard. He made fair points and for once was giving full on criticism of the club. He is normally sitting on the fence.

Tbf, I don't think criticising Knibbs after he's played sixty minutes in a pre-season friendly is the right thing to do. I think he did alright given the circumstances.

I think next week will be key in understanding how strong we'll be this season - in terms of completing signings. I wouldn't be surprised if a handful signed before the Southampton game next week.

Knibbs (and some of the trialists) have pedigree, why sign/trial them otherwise?

Really had it with Berks yesterday. Yes we know things aren't good but Tim was being ultra pessimistic and basically slagging off Knibbs as being a cr@p striker, that Reading shouldn't really be interested in, when I'm fairly sure the consensus on here was that Knibbs is more an AM - and then went on about how just surviving in L1 would probably be a succes!

At the moment this self sustaining joke of a club needs all the support and positivity it can get from everyone until it proves itself incapable for this season and the main media outlet that covers it getting at them after an hour of a pointless preseason game when they're trying to build a squad and have had a head coach offically for just 72 hours just isn't on.
