Yeah, but didn't the takeover happen halfway through January. I'm fairly certain we signed someone prior to the takeover happening/being announced, but could be wrong or thinking of the wrong player. Of course, I doubt anyone expected us to get promoted that season - so he probably would've played more for us had we not been promoted.

Sounds like we confirmed that we were looking to sell to AZ on 21st Jan.
Might've been someone we were always looking at, but might not - probably too close to the crossover date to confirm.
He may maybe someone AZ opened up the funds to bring in who we wouldn't've otherwise signed then. That was absolutely the case with Jason Roberts and getting Kebe's contract renewed.

Your memory is better than mine! I remember signing roberts and getting kebe’s contract done but that would have been after zing.

Plus a few useful loans that played their part, Matt Connoly, Hayden Mullins and Benik Afobe.
It might be Karl Shepherd I'm thinking of (the signing prior to the takeover), as he was certainly the type of player we would've signed prior to AZ.
It's possible Cywka was brought in with the club still not expecting Kebe's contract to be extended (again I can't recall the exact timeline) or he was someone who was always going to be a Championship squad player. He was needed, as I remember going to Brighton and having none of our usual central-midfielders nor one of our regular wingers (HRK?); I think McAnuff played central midfield with Mullins and Cywka played out wide. Don't know who would've played without those signings.
