Would they play the same sort of role though?

Not a criticism. I'm just trying to get my head round it all.

We have Marek, Howard, The Sig and Davies for the offensive role. Too many. The experienced ones having contributed zero.

We have Gunnarsson, Karacan, Tabb and Cisse for the defensive role. Too many. Gunnar can't play 90 or regularly, Tabb is tiny which leaves us weak in the air, Cisse's positioning and passing is poor.

In a good team Howard could hold his own and actually look up to the level; in a 'fresh' underperforming team of youngsters where you possibly rely on him to take on a seasoned pro 'captaincy' leadership role I'm sad to say he doesn't come up to the mark. He has more indivdiual skill than Harper and is better going fowards, but he lacks agility (still after enough games into the season) and will never have the spirit of Harper.

I'd have rather have kept Harper, better the devil you know.

Sadly for JM, cost of WCBAP!

Ideal Are you on drugs? Hold his own? The guy is a total freeloader, he offers nothing! He needs to be carried by the rest of the team.
you seem to have a lot to say, and you must spend a lot of time in the UK these days to come up with such snippets of factual wisdom.

Have you and Ms Hilary Scott finally got it together yet Ideal?

and how do we know howard is no good in the middle?

because BR played him there to find out.

BR ain't stupid - he's trying different things to see what works best. There's every chance he'll succeed in getting it right just as he did with Watford.

Ideal http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1784707,00.html

Howard, 26, becomes one of seven new faces brought to Madejski Stadium by Brendan Rodgers this summer, and he signs a contract until 2012.

That useless lump of wasted space will be receiving wages from our club until 2012.

Talking of which, when's Kebe's contract finish? Must be the end of this season?

I heard that he signed a five year extension not so long ago.

Credit to Howard, who has hardly been a favourite since he has arrived at Reading but he is most certainly one of BR's better signings and was deservedly man of the match yesterday. I know that Howard has his detractors out there - and yesterday's MOTM showing is one in the eye for said detractors - but he is easily good enough for Reading at this level and hopefully he will get plenty of opportunity during the run-in because he is proven quality in the Championship and certainly one of the more capable footballers amongst our plethora of centre-mids.

I didn't like him at first, but he's winning me round. I think it may be another case of a good player mis-used by Rodgers in a system he wasn't suited to. Yesterday was the first time I've seen him perform in an attacking midfield role.

Previously I've been impressed when he plays the workhorse, pivotal role in the middle.

Stay on his feet better and keep the long shots down and he's definitely going to be a big player for us in our fight to stay up.

That also applies to Long. Perhaps a manager who has steadied the team, got them playing to their own capabilites = a happier individual, better team ethic and dare i say it, a certain confidence. Again though i don't want to seem to over sell as it's still a little too early.

I like the fact that people excuse players for playing like shit by blaming it on Rodgers.

How else can you explain the turnaround in Shane Long and Brian Howard then? Even Jimmy Kebe is starting to impress and that's saying something. Yesterday's game was the first time in ages that I saw a collective determination and hunger to win. Howard made one brilliant last-ditch tackle as did Andy Griffin. Coincidence? I don't believe in coincidence.

We the thread was bumped from 18th October. So, invalid point, poorly made.
