Would you take Ola John permanently?

by Sutekh » 03 Mar 2016 12:44

I would.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... c-10980144

Ola John would be happy to sign for Reading FC on a permanent basis this summer.

The Dutch winger is currently on a season-long loan from Benfica and fans are keen to see him remain at Madejski Stadium for the long-term.

He insists he would have no problem committing to Royals - but says his future lies in the hands of the Portuguese giants.

“I have one year left with Benfica and I don’t know want they want,” said the 23-year-old .

“I haven’t spoken with them yet. We will do that is the summer and then I’ll see what my options are and what Reading can do of course.

“But I’m happy here. I’m playing now and it’s a good club. I like the fans so anything is possible.”

When asked if he wants to remain at Reading, he added: “I hope so. I’m really happy with how things are going at the moment.

“But in football anything can happen. Maybe I have to go back to Benfica. Nobody knows.

“I’m still a Benfica player so we’ll see at the end of the season.”

There have been reports that there is a clause in John’s loan agreement which would see complete a permanent move to Reading if they secure promotion to the Premier League - similar to the deal they struck with Watford over Matej Vydra.

But the Dutch international , who scored in last weekend’s win at Charlton, insists that is not the case.

“No, it doesn’t depend on that,” he said.

“It depends on Benfica and what they want to do with me. I’m still under contract there.

“Football is so weird so anything can happen.”

And we've already got his song, though we may need to sign Piazon or another player whose name will scan....

Woodcote Royal No

Rather have John Salako - 04/05 35 games and 4 goals vs Ola John 18 and 2 goals

depends how much a transfer would cost, his wages would cost, how well he has fitted in personally within the squad, who else is available that we could get instead, how much that alternative would cost in transfer and wages, how much of the overall budget John's cost would take up and how many positions we need to fill this summer that the budget could be spread across instead of getting him.

Yes. He's hitting form, growing into a role with the club and has the ability to make something out of nothing.

He's also keen to stay and with HRK unlikely to be here next season, there's no reason why we can't afford him.

This. And at 23 and with obvious ability he's only likely to get better. Which of course will make him more expensive to buy.

No brainer to keep him. Im worried we will be priced out though and he will end up going to a premier league club.

Obvious class, but I'm not sure he's done enough for us to justify spending seven figures on him.

Still voted yes.

I'd take him especially if HRK is not going to re-sign. Heard somewhere that the buy out option for him at the end of the year is £4.5M. That will really show if the Thais are serious about promotion if we pay that much.

As I said on the other thread, an in-form John and McCleary on either wing would be top quality in this league, especially with a striker like Vydra up top. I am not sure if we could afford both John and Vydra, though.

Definite yes if the price is reasonable, which is more likely than with Vydra. Especially since we'll be down to 1 winger in the summer.

I would love Ola John to stay.

But Benfica better be realistic as to his valuation. Everyone has their price and the Royals don't like spending money.

He's already here on a permanent (for now).

Any of the players we have on loan to us, you knew what I meant!

I'd probably pull out after 10 minutes or so.

No way, we need to reduce our reliance on foreign players especially with the "out" campaign gaining momentum. At best he is a tricky dicky Mr Woo type player no stamina, no passion,no interest, for the English game, avoid.
