In other words he's been here 20 years or so and in that time the club has been remarkably successful, therefore I would say it's a good thing he's here to act as that link between club and owners.

Let's hope the recommendations for playing staff from SC have been taken on board and will shortly be approved....

Pepe the Horseman I've always been under the impression that's he's a bitofacunt. Nothing really to base that on mind.

Glad it's not just me.

I suppose the self congratulatory piece another nobber quoted does nothing to dispel this.

cf Nicky Hammond, JM or Gordon Neate, decent honest blokes who say it like it is.

You want the person running the show to be good at their job, if they're a bitofacunt then so be it - In some situations that may be beneficial, since nice guys are usually soft. However it tends not to win you friends and sometimes it's good to have friends in business.

He's a Wolves fan, apparently.

I know a couple of people that have worked with him, and they echo that opinion of him. He disliked Brendan Rodgers because he felt he wasn't being kept in the loop as much as he fwlt he should be, so he ran upstairs to SJM and demanded we sack him, and he got his wish (against SJM's better judgement, so he claimed at the time with it being the hardest decision he had to make). He isn't a football person, much as SJM isn't, and I feel ever so uneasy knowing he's pulling the strings at the club.

What makes you say he's not a football person ?

Interesting take on the Rodgers situation, I'd heard there was some internal friction but thought the sacking came because Brendan kept demanding more money despite having already been given more than his budget and he gave SJM an ultimatum to back him or sack him, which was only going to end one way.

I've had the misfortune of meeting the arrogant prick on a couple of occasions and I can confirm he is definitely abitofacunt. He seems to have done a reasonable job but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the right person to take the club forward with the new owners.

I fully expect after a period of handholding until the Thai's really understand what they're doing they'll eventually appoint their own person and Howe and possibly even Madejski will be moved on. They'll still be around for the next couple of seasons at least. I expect they'll be looking for someone with international business experience to come in and help grow the club.

He does have a slightly odd Beverley Hills look about him, almost as if he's had some work done

Reminds me of Adkins getting Southampton to the Premier League and then they sack him and appoint some Portuguese coach.

And it has worked out very well for them indeed.

Howe is the nephew of former England and Arsenal coach Don Howe.

Don Howe was born in Wolverhampton, played for West Brom, Arsenal and was capped 23 times for England.

It could be Nigel's family came from the same area, possibly a reason for his supporting Wolves.

I know someone who worked closely with him at the club. Says he's a good laugh on a night out and was very wary about the Russians on the way in.

During the last knockings of the Tommy Burns era, I think after a pretty woeful defeat at Bournemouth, a mate of mine saw him outside the ground and gave him a bit of an earful.

To his credit he said he could go up to the Madejski in the week and talk about with him, so he did.

Apparently he was none too pleased about things either, and even though Tommy Burns hadn't yet been fired, Howe put forward the suggestion that Joe Kinnear could take over as manager, and asked my mate if the fans thought he'd be a good appointment (or so memory tells me). My mate said no.
