Winston Biscuit
Sanguine Good to see, but early days of course - I think you need to go down to Leicester City in 8th to find the first club in the Championship table currently in receipt of relegation parachute payments.

a very good point on parachute payments that

i am enjoying Birmingham being 12th, Southampton being 17th and Wrexham being 19th

and Coventry's GD is enjoyable to see

Christ, I knew they were going well but to have scored 12 more than the next highest scorers and be 1 short of having scored double what QPR have (who are the 4th highest scorers) is crazy!

They have the two top scorers in the division. Won their last five in a row, scoring 15, conceding just one. Coventry also have the second best defence in the football league.

West Ham look very poor. Lethargic, slow in possession and Leeds barely had to work for their goals. So soft. Nuno had a real job on his hands to keep them up.

As a neutral this premier league season is fantastic.

The title is wide open, it looks like Arsenal’s to lose but they will have a blip, but who will step up?

How are Man Utd 4th?!

But the relegation battle is the real interest for me, the three that came up, surely Sunderland will be fine, Leeds ticking along ok, Burnley not a bad start, if they can pick up a few more points, more worry for the teams around them.

Let’s assume Burnley go, two ‘premier league’ teams will go with them.

Surely Wolves, who else? Hopefully West Ham but Forest Fulham Everton and Brighton will be looking over their shoulder

Personally I’d love to see BHA go but they will have enough as will Everton I think.

Supposedly Liverpool had spent several training sessions on how not to give Brentford opportunities yet spent most of the match finding new ways to give Brentford throw ins in the last third

Wonder what a midweek league cup exit to Palace would do for things.

Yes, on their day teams like Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton (3 teams that we used to call rivals  ) are a match for any team in the Premier League.
It just shows what is possible with good owners and good managers and unfortunately a regular reminder of Reading's fall from grace.

Fair play to them for being better than everyone else at something but, although I doubt the Open Play stat will last, it's a sad reflection really.

5 mins without conceding, that's good, right?

Maresca on Liam Delap:

“After the first yellow card I told him [Delap] four or five times to keep calm. But Liam is a player who, when he's on the pitch, is probably playing the game for himself and struggles to realise and listen to those around him."

Oooof!

Wasn't sure where to put this, so this thread will have to do.

Its an article I found interesting by a Japanese female player in the US league who basically says due to the lifestyle lead with being a pro athlete - constant cycle of body fatigue and then putting it through a lot again, the stresses of it, the diet being for sports performance and not for regular life etc, she didnt have a period for 7 years while playing professionally

Lol @ wonder boy, super manager and future England manager St Eddie who supposedly can do no wrong who somehow got his Newcastle side to lose 3-1 after being 1-0 up in the first few minutes against a West Ham side that could have shipped double figures against Brentford in their previous home game and hadn't won a home game since February.

Away from home the Geordies have scored just 2 goals from 5 games and only bottom club and already nearly relegated Wolves have scored less.

West Ham were also a bit unfortunate to have a goal disallowed for offside and a penalty overturned..

Joelinton said in an interview last week that the Newcastle squad is stronger than last season and have a real chance of winning the Premier League.
There's being positive and being a dreamer-dream on the dirtiest player in the Premier League.

Also yesterday, how naiive of another manager (who in fairness has done little wrong and much right since taking over at Bournemouth) to play such a Spursey high line against the most potent striker in world football-it really was asking for trouble unless you had Usain Bolt as centre-back.

Would just like to point out...

Forest were also incorrectly awarded a corner, but they didn't score from it, so there is no drama!

You do get some odd bees in your bonnet. Presumably this one because Howe called out Arne Slot. Eddie Howe is a fantastic manager - Newcastle play excellent attacking football. He's won their first trophy in forever and got them to the Champions League. That's no mean feat.

Fair comment that I do get bees in my bonnet (doesn't everybody?) and often with people they are irrational as well as rational views (see a topic some time ago on HNA about irrational dislikes).

Nothing to do with any comments about Slot.

A couple of seasons or so ago he was moaning about not being able to spend money like other clubs when of course he has bought in at some considerable expense:-
Guimares
Tonali
Livramento
Gordon
Barnes
Murphy
Isak
Botman
Willock
Hall
Osula
as well as Pope, Trippier,Burn, Targett.etc

All of those were before this season's latest spend-up , in part funded by Isak and last season's Anderson money.
So, unlike previous managers he has had considerable financial backing from the owners and not much to moan about.

That is the moaning bit but there is also the sharp practice on the pitch.

He and Jason have become extremely unpopular with other managers with their delaying tactics at set pieces, the professional fouls (not alone in this respect, think also Rodri etc) and players (again not alone) feigning injury.
The cherubic demeanour rather masks the true identity (bear in mind my own local long term knowledge of him and his brother) but being ruthless is very much part of management-I do get that.

Anyway, I'm not really trying to justify anything and don't care that much but have responded as you chose to call me out.

Eddie has done quite well with a squad that has cost a fair bit to assemble but their away performances this season have been poor, especially at hitherto hopeless West Ham and he will have to do some serious work with those players to get them near the very top of the table, something that Joelinton said he expected to happen this season.

BTW Sangers is there anyone else (apart from me) that you either rationally or irrationally dislike or even go as far as to hate?
