Yeah Dixon was the only tolerable pundit on the BBC. Hope they don't push Keown onto MOTD now

Maguire Lawrenson makes me actually shout at the television.

Me too, what a miserable bell he is. Painful to listen to. Ian Wright said as much on Twitter too.

Personally I would swap the downbeat, enthusiasm-sapping likes of Lawrenson and Shearer for someone more lively like Wrighty or Savage. Agreed that MOTD definitelly needs a shake up.

Ian Wright had his chance a few years ago at a world cup (I think) and was just plain embarrassing - moronic tub thumping.

Savage did some MOTD2 last season and was far better than Lawrenson, would much rather see him alongside Lineker.

Ian Wright would tip us to win the world cup even if we hadn't qualified. He was pretty much there as a clown.

Agreed.

I know Ian Wright isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like the way he shows passion and energy, which is more than I can say for Lawro or Shearer.

There has to be some way to improve MOTD. Perhaps they could even get a different premier league manager on as a guest each week. That would keep it interesting.

Just a thought but you don't need to be an ex-professional footballer to be able to be a pundit/analyst.

Not this obsession with passion and energy again.

Christ alive, first managers need to show passion (rather than tactical acumen and management skills) now pundits too. How about they demonstrate that they are knowledgable, articulate and informative instead?

Savage and Wright would be equally as bad as Hansen and Lawrenson.

I never implied that passion and energy are more important than knowledge and articulation. I think you need both to make a show like MOTD work, and not necessarily in the same person.

But too much cold analysis leaves me cold. Don't people watch football to be entertained, not to watch pundits like Lawro with his face like a wet weekend in the Yorkshire Dales? It's an entertainment business FFS!

I'm not advocating we go to the extreme of our brothers in South America who scream "gooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal" at the top of their voices, just a bit more passion on MOTD.

Seriously, watch this and tell me if Lawro floats your boat.

Not sure anyone is supporting Lawro, just merely stating that Wright and Savage are not great replacements.

Dixon would have been the obvious choice as he is the only BBC pundit most can tolerate, but that is obviously no longer an option given the fact he appears to have jumped ship with the same frustrations as the rest of us.

The intelligent insight of Gianluca Vialli in the later stages of the Euros suggests the BBC might do well to look abroad.

Yes, I enjoyed Vialli and Klinsman's punditry in the Euros. Also, Martinez was OK and gave interesting insight into how the Spanish game compared to the Prem.

After hearing Lawrenson commentating on GB v Senegal I couldn't take anymore and had a moan to the BBC about him. It only took five minutes and I feel much better for it. The link is below, if you should want to complain directly to the BBC.

I remember reading an article by the MotD producer when Alan Shearer joined, and he kept saying how exciting it was to see such a "legend" in the studio. He didn't seem remotely concerned about what he actually said during the show.

There's a comment above about analysis leaving people cold. I'd suggest at least half of that is because our pundits are useless at it. They just talk about the players with premier league experience, and players who have pace, and struggle beyond that.

It's so rare that they actually say anything worthwhile that it's not difficult to see why people are bored by them.

I'd prefer to see Mark Bright, Chris Waddle & Gordon Strachan on MOTD,
or get Murts on for some good RFC bias (but not saints!)
