Pepe the Horseman They'd have probably got that same email even if they'd won the first game.

Exactly, plus as mentioned most of the STHs probably expect to overturn the deficit, it's not like West Ham fans and the rumbelows cup semi final second leg

As I understand it Man Utd will only be allowed to increase their wages bill by £4m next season unless their their new commercial deals more than replace the potential lost CL revenues which will be circa £45m.

If their wages do go beyond that £4m Mark then they could face a transfer embargo.

Well Rooney's already used up the £4m thank you very much. And as I said earlier, in order to get some top players in to rebuild the squad, without CL football they are going to have to pay well over the odds.

I don't know the value of the Nike deal but it better be bloody huge or the club will be facing a massive problem.

Perhaps it will get solved by selling the naming rights to the stadium!

If they do overspend on the above criteria in 2014/15, with reduced revenues being the cause - when they file their financial results in Dec 2015, the PL would penalise them in 2016/17 with tfr embargo, fine and points deduction. Or a combination thereof.

I believe the actual penalties are yet to be published but I thought it would likely be one or all of those.

We shall see, but I don't think there's as much room to wriggle as some people seem to suggest.

Whatever, clubs need to be planning for this right now and, whatever Ferguson's influence, sadly I suppose (because I detest the sacking culture) I don't think Man Utd's board can afford to give Moyes another season.

Does anyone else have any knowledge / opinion on this?

i think that the presence of sir alex ferguson prevents the club moving on:he is in danger of becoming the sad spectre that shankley became at liverpool when he seemed incapable of walking away.

Let's not be too hasty. United have only had 7 months of demise compared to Liverpool's 24 years.

That's quite an odd analogy considering both Paisley and Fagen's success post Shankly, the two of the most successful English club managers of the modern era aren't they?

Shankly hung around yes, but are you perhaps getting confused with the effect Busby had at United by hanging around as a Director after stepping down as manager?

Frimmers? Confused? Never!

Oh and Kes, how long had Chelsea been in the wilderness before Roman turned up?

I was fairly sure Shankly had to be told to stop coming to the training pitches (possibly by Paisley).
