3 veesinarow Poor and oh so rattLOLed...Comparisons need to be like-for-like, Kes. Messi/Torres is a valid comparison because they've actually, well you know, both played in top flight football and in the Champions League. The three amigos you've dredged up haven't played in the greatest competition on Earth and two of them haven't played Premier League.

FaiLOLed.

No Fixed Abode WHat has the CL got to do with a Chelsea fan?

Which'll be the case after their last ever CL game next week.

Messi is just light years ahead of any player that I have seen in the last 40 years, and that includes Maradona, Cruyff, Platini, Moore, Beckenbauer, the real Ronaldo. I think Pele still shades it because of what he has accomplished at the international level.

Anyway, Messi's finishing last night was just nuts. The speed of thought and touch for the fourth after the one-two and save by the keeper was just astonishing. One-on-one with the keeper, you can always expect the left-foot scoop, so he then goes and dinks one in with the right!

The guy could end up with 60+ goals this season!

Over-rated, never done it at international level. Probably be non-existant in Poland this summer as well

100% serious. Don't think Fergie or Mourinho can be called great coaches until they win a world cup either.

If you are being 100% serious, I would suggest your descent from being a half-decent newbie to being one of the worst posters on the board, is more or less complete. I salute you.

It, *sniff*, it was j-j-just a joke

Can I ask what the other stages of my rather rapid descent were? I shall endeavour to cut out my mistakes and get back to my high (half decent) standards of yesteryear.

I was joking too, so everything has worked out beautifully in the end. Sorry about the unnecessary shedding of tears.

Fwiw the European record is 66 (Hungary) followed by Dixie Dean's 63.

Whilst having a look at this I found (and remembered) Mario Jardel.

166 goals in 169 games for Porto, 34 in 43 for Galatasaray and 67 in 62 for Sporting, he only played 10 times for Brazil.

I know it's not the Champions League but Blimey, if Bilbao had Messi they could have put 6 past Man Utd.

Very impressive.

Really, really fond of Athletic, who at the very least would be hounding Valencia for third in the league had they not had such a weirdly subpar start to their domestic campaign, and of course they were well represented in the national U-21s squad last summer

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see 'em beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final and expect 'em to make themselves heard from on the occasion either way

Tonite, we are all* Basques etc

*w/the odd exception ::chortle::

We're always hearing about what a great league the Premier is, but has it somehow slipped this year? Our teams have struggled not just in the Champions League but, of late, in the Europa. Maybe there have been signs in that the top clubs in the Prem get beat oftener than they used to. Should the likes of Napoli and Bilbao be finding the net repeatedly against our hallowed élite? How can our cream be so easily whipped?
