southbank1871 Blacks are better at football though, so you'd expect them to be over represented as players.

And whites are more intelligent which is why you'd expect an over representation in management.

Personally wouldn't say blacks are better at football. Mainly faster and stronger. However - 2 best players in the World........Messi and Ronaldo.....

I do grow tired of the 'football's racist' pieces in the media.

Football is probably one of the least racist industries in our society and yet because of it's high profile, and excellent recent record of diversity, it gets targetted for these daft campaigns and news items.

The lack of black managers is reasonably explained by the time lag between players leaving the game and becoming successful managers a the games previous issues with black representation a generation or so ago. The fact that a lot of the black players in our game are foreigners who are only here for a few years probably accounts for some of the disparity between playing and managment representation too.

As for Terry and the FA. The rules are there to be seen and there's always been a difference between the level of evidence required for in sport punishments and court of law convictions. Don't see an issue there.

Sorry, didn't realise football ended with the Premier League.

Just for clarity though, of the 20 Premier League teams, 15 managers have played in or were involved in British clubs before becoming a manager. Only Wenger, Jol, Manchini, Laudrup and Villas-Boas are direct imports as such. If you exclude those who've only come in from Scotland you could add Fergie to that list.

I think I make it 13 of the 20 Premier League Managers are British.

I just think that if a signifcant proportion of the black players are short term visitors to the country for their playing career (and that's probably a lot less significant the lower down the leagues you go) and then leave, their a bit less likely to go into management jobs over here.

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30
eye on the REAL issues...lack of Black Managers, Coaches, Administrators and within the media...this is the REAL fight..equality for ALL..

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30
and with 30% Black Players within the game..that is Todays fight...

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30
Oh....the Lack of Badges argument...well many have got jobs without badges...point 1 and at last count over 20% BEM where doing their Badges

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30
Oh...and the HORROR stories that exist are too many to mention..the numbers just DON'T STACK UP..regardless of anybody's excuses.

Don't think Roberts is being fair on this. There may well be some discrimination against black managers, but I don't think that's the full story. Do many black player actually WANT to be managers in the first place? I don't recall many black players saying they want to get into management when interviewed. And the ones that do become managers, are they any good? I think black people need to accept that they bear some responsibility.

Quick assessment:

Ince - not great
Barnes - rubbish
Hughton - good

Any more?

West Brom IIRC.
So there are Jason Roberts and Garth Crooks involved in regular TV and radio work and Clark Carlisle leader of the PFA.
Surely that is some sort of progress.
Cascarino on the radio today was making the point that black players ought to compare what it is like in our dressing-rooms to what it is like overseas.
Things may not be perfect but it seems as though black players get a better deal here than in other countries so again some progress.
I do think sometimes that people like Jason Roberts won't be happy until there is black supremacy and the idea that black players may go on strike because "kicking racism out of football" seems outrageous to me.

Why?
In my eyes "kicking racism out of football" has been a great success for black players both on the pitch and even more so on the terraces (to use a word which is no longer technically correct but still regularly used).
Let's hope they don't believe that racism works just one way.
By the way are you the pickiest poster around along with Spacey?
You never seem to say much and contribute much but come across as a leech attaching itself to all and sundry.

Wax Jacket
southbank1871 However, if the FA couldn't prove that he didn't say "I didn't call you a black pcunt" then I'm not sure how they could find him guilty of racism.

my thoughts exactly. I'm not sure how that's racist at all.

still they may jsut have wanted to nail him

If that's your thoughts exactly, then maybe I'll dig out your feelings on the Suarez verdict, as nor could the FA 'prove' the context of what Suarez said. At least in this verdict they have been consistent (..ly wrong).

Keith Curle - at Notts County, apparently. Not sure how he's like as a manager.
