If we do lose Doyle and Lita in January I would be very happy to see us bring back Coxy and give him a chance. I have always thought he would go on to be a PL striker. I think he could do well in partnership with Noel Hunt.

I was really surprised when we let him go for peanuts as I know he was well regarded at Reading - but on reflection I think we must have a buy back deal or a huge sell on percentage.

If for example we get 50% of sell ons over 200K and we paid 1M for him - then it would only cost us a net 400K to bring him back - which is peanuts in modern football.

Only if Doyle and Lita go will we be looking for a new striker, but Coppell being Coppell I reckon he'll look first at using the squad players.

Alan Partridge He wasn't given any opportunites, the one he did get he was stuck out of position and still played a better half than Oster and Fae managed all season.

Scored for fun for Northampton and now is making a mockery of the £200,000. When he leaves Swindon it will almost certainly be for nearly if not seven figures.

All well and good saying well Cox wanted to go but when he wasn't being given a single chance despite our other forwards doing nothing to warrant selection I'd have got pretty pissed off too. Hope he keeps banging them in for Swindon.

Isn't this the same bollocks that came out when Tyson left? He'll float around League 1/2, maybe get a sniff of the Championship. No worse off without him to be honest, his fault he wanted to take the drop in quality to get first team football. We might even get a bonus percentage of any future fee

Unlike Tyson we'll never know remotely how good Cox is/would have been as he never got a chance depsite 3 of Coppell's 4 forwards last year doing sod all eventually leading to relegation. The point is this lad had scored regularly in two loan spells, done well for the reserves and still never got a chance. He's proving albeit in a lower division what i personally saw whenever he played for the reserves, a class above the rest with goals of all sorts. If you get a chance to see his hattrick at Scunthorpe I would advise it. The 2nd goal was a world class bit of finishing. People moan about Lita and Long for differing reasons, the answer was already in the squad, shame Coppell never chose that option. £200,000 Swindon will be absolutely pissing themselves, especially when they sell him with another 0 on the end. There is no way Cox will 'float around League 2' and it wasn't his fault at all, he wanted to play and he rightly had a case for at least being involved in the squad. Young players like Cox have to drop a League or 2 to get the games when they have so little experience, he's just proving what a good young player he is, this is the worst mistake Reading have made in the transfer market for quite some time, IMO of course.

Cox is a much better player than Tyson will ever be. I think we were right to let Tyson go - as has been proved by events but Cox will be a top player.

I agree with most of what you say but if you read my comments earlier I think they answer some of your points. I would have liked to see Cox given a chance last season. He was superb when he came on against Spurs in the Cup and I was really angry when we sold him for £200K but I really think Reading must have a plan in letting him go. After all if he had gone to Swindon and flopped we would have lost nothing, but if succesful and we have built in a re-purchase option or something then we should be able to get him back if we need him. Nothing else makes any sense. After all we have bought Mooney for the same fee but he is unproven compared to Cox. It just does not seem to be the Reading way to do such a bad piece of business so there must be more to it (I hope).

At the time he was sold we looked to be in minimal danger of being relegated - and he'd never have a prayer of breaking into us as a PL team. So it was only fair to let him go and have a chance elsewhere.

I think if he and we had known we'd be going down thing would have been quite different!

Interesting to know how much of a future sell-on fee RFC negotiated

Can't see there being any 'buy back' clause in the deal.

Such a thing would be meaningless given that it could be over ridden by Cox simply saying he didn't want to join us.

Also I can't see how such a clause would work - if Team X offered £1 million for Cox would we have an option to buy him at the same price ? We could make that offer without any kind of contractual clause.

I'd wager though we have a biggish sell on clause, 40% or thereabouts. It would give us an advantage if we decided to bid for himin a competitive market ....

It probably will be a mistake and arguements can be made that he may have been worth a try last year but as said, when he went we couldn't predict the four strikers ahead of him all playing so poorly. By all accounts, Cox wanted first team football there and then, so we let him go.

If he'd been prepared to hang around until the end of the season, I think he would have played a big part in this season. He wasn't so he isn't and is doing well at the level below.

Cox had 6 months left to run on his contract. While Coppell wanted him to stay, the lure of first team football was too great for Cox to turn down. Who knows what will happen, we've seen clubs go back in for players after they've been sold (eg Billy Sharp back to Sheff Utd).

He wouldn't want to come back and sit on the bench again though.

He didn't really get that chance in the first place, so yes he probably would. And it'd only be a matter of time before he ousted Shane LOLong.

Blue_Elm I played up front with Simon for Denefield School. Hes an avid Reading fan like myself and I for one want to see him keep banging them in for Swindon.

He'd come back - 100% CERTAIN!

Kitso is a huge Tottenham fan and that didn't stop him banging them in for us against them!
