Royalee
blade 1 "i'm not going to lie to you mate. I'm buzzing"

"I'll work my nuts off and be breathing through my ringpiece tomorrow."

I genuinely love him already.

You won't when you see him play.

Ignore Royalee, most RFC fans won't have a bad word to say about Harps. Genuine guy, will work his nuts off like he said. He needs a new challenge and has been treated badly by the new management here. So basically you've got a player with Prem experience for I guess not much money who's itching to get going and prove a few doubters (Rodgers, McCarthy) wrong. I think he'll do well for you.

Agreed. Rightly or wrongly, BR seems to have set his face against the '06 brigade (Ingi excepted - although maybe not?) and Harps needs a reboot. This will be an excellent signing for the Blades, and I wouldn't be surprised to see James back in the Prem next season, maybe even clutching a second Championship winner's medal.

What's Howard like?

Hes not too bad. It just hasn't worked out for him

Think he suffered from the fans expectations abit. If he had been on a free of from the academy he would have been cut some slack.

But he was billed as the answer to our midfield problems, and came with a seizable fee (£500k.) He just hasn't lived up to that and has tended to go missing at times. On his day and with a fair wind he looks quality, when its a backs against the wall job it can be like having 10 men.

He may fit right in cos he is capable of some decent football, and nice pretty football may suit him.

I'm not as sad to see him go as say Armstrong.

Reckon from what you are saying you have the better deal.

Gutted to lose Harper. Hope he does well for you. He will be sorely missed no matter what the wind up merchants say on this board.

I'd echo those sentiments. Harps has been a fantastic servant to the club, something newer fans that have arrived since our first Premiership season perhaps don't appreciate. Although length of service doesn't equate to a value, he's always been a central player in the plans of Pardew and Coppell from League One through to an eigth place Premiership finish and, in the opinion of most Premiership managers and leading football pundits (not just the fools on TV), has always been a key player in our side. So you can understand why a player who clearly loves the club and has played such a central role can become disenchanted when the new manager doesn't play him and the fans (those more naive) don't appreciate the role he plays in the side. Some of the comments spouted by our fans remind me of the comments made by the Real Madrid President when Makalele was sold. He said 'he was useless, he never passed the ball further than ten yards!'... clueless. I think Harps still has a part to play. Realsitically, though the youngsters coming through are promising great things, I don't think any of the new breed midfielders other than perhaps Karacan could perform over 46 games to the same standard as Harps.

On the proposed deal front I don't see how we benefit if the speculated terms are true. We permanatly lose a player possibly better than the one arriving, and the one arriving leaves in six months at which point we'll be a player short. I wouldn't begrudge Harps a Premiership move if it meant getting in a permanent replacement but these terms will really do us over.

I have been watching Harper since we were in Div 1 and although I would echo that he has been a great player for us frankly last season he was very poor.

I don't know why but he was not the same player as he had been in earlier seasons. I think it is right for him to move on as you can be too long in one place.

I would agree he was poor last year but who really performed well? It was a season of underachievement which, unfortunately, was largely down to the manager. But surely if BR is a man who gets the best from his players as we're told, then he'd be licking his lips at the prospect of training a player that should be at the peak of his career, an experienced pro to glue the team togeather and has bags of enthusiasm.

I'd also agree that a new challenge at another club may be good and as I alluded to, I wouldn't begrudge Harps a Premiership move. But I do think that Sheffield Utd is a bit of a sideways step in his career.

I would love to see Brian Howard pull on the hoops. Any idea when we will get confirmation on this deal?

Royalee
Deathy Ignore the idiots on here, blade1. Harper is a very good midfielder. Guilty of to many safe side ways passes, frustrating at times too, but he's a decent player at this level and just needs a fresh start now. He'll be missed if he goes, and he's a great character too.

Says the village idiot.

Royalee, why the need to put in a personal attack? If you have differing opinions then so be it, but no need to call someone an idiot. I agree with Jay on Harper. If he is healthy and motivated I think he will do great.

I hate Howard, because of the way he celebrated after the scrappy goal he scored against us.

I wanted to punch his face.

How am I supposed to support him ?

Please help me deal with this dilema.

The OS says the club are still awaiting ratification from the powers that be over one transfer in (presumably Howard) and one transfer out (presumably Rosenior).

They will give us the full SP as soon as they have that ratification.

Or just boo him mercilessly everytime he touches the ball even if it involves scoring a goal.

Anyone know any Barnsley supporters to ask on this one...?
