After sending out a compelling tweet, United States international and LA Galaxy star forward, Gyasi Zardes, has been linked with a move away from his hometown club. He could be one his way to England to play for Championship side, Reading. A surprising turn of events have made rumors grow louder about an eventual move for the forward.
In his tweet Zardes said that, “It has been an honor to represent my hometown club just miles from where I grew up. Blessed 2 play in front of you for the past 4 seasons.” The tweet comes out of nowhere as Gyasi’s name had not been linked with a move recently. There were some previous rumors but those had quieted down.
Now with the move to Reading catching some momentum on social media, no one really knows what to make of the rumor. It hasn’t been confirmed by any top-level reporters but the tweet makes a move seem like a possibility. It is strange that it would come a short time before the MLS Cup Playoffs when the season isn’t yet over for the Galaxy
Zardes has been recovering from a broken bone in his foot but there were whispers that he may be able to return for postseason play. The winter transfer window does not open until January 1st so an announcement in October is surprising. The vague tweet could be taken many ways but it has not been clarified by Gyasi or anyone else.
After starting his career with the Ventura County Fusion, the 25-year old forward has played with the LA Galaxy since 2013. His pace, style of play, and hair made him a fan favorite. His production also made him one of the most skilled players in Major League Soccer.
He has appeared in over 100 games for Los Angeles and has recorded 32 goals and 15 assists. Zardes has also become a regular in Jurgen Klinsmann’s Starting XI for the United States Men’s National Team. Earlier this year, Gyasi was linked to Galatasaray but the Galaxy rejected a $2.5 million bid from the Turkish Club. He has also previously been linked to Reading last winter in 2015.
