Old Biscuitman The decision which concedes that your earlier decision was wrong is one of the hardest to make in any sphere of activity. Credit to SC for stepping up to it, particularly when he made a profit from it. In the event he also appears to have out-foxed Keane, no dummy himself.

That is why Coppell is one of the best managers around.

He doesn't mess about.

He could see Halford was useless in just 12 weeks and decided to get rid. Coppell is an absolute genius.

Previous managers like Tommy Burns, even dear old Quinny & Gooding would have been too proud to admit such a mistake! Look how long they perservered with a clearly useless Meaker.

Coppell brings in Owusu, realises he's sh*te and gets rid. Has already done the same with Morgan, Brooker, Halford, etc....

If Coppell was like any of our previous managers and couldn't own up to his mistakes then our current team would be this:

GK: Hahnemann
RB: Murty
LB: Shorey
CB: Sonko
CB: Ingimarsson
LM: Brooker
RM: Little
CM: Sidwell
CM: Harper
CF: Owusu
CF: Morgan

Actually thats not a bad team. But it would be playing in the Championship.

Where are:-
Halls
Brown
Maite
Bennett
Stack

No manager gets it right every time.
I thought it was funny that an earlier poster spoke of Keane's anger about Halford getting sent off again-wasn't Keane in for an early bath more than nearly all of his fellow professionals?

In the reserves buddy!

Have to defend Owusu

a. he wasn't sh*t
b. Coppell brought him in to do a very specific job, which he did. Coppell pointed this out at the time

Owusu is a good player at League 1 level. I agree with that. Every player at Reading is in to do a job at a particular time.

Coppell is so good at assessing who is good and who isn't and getting rid of those that aren't. I'm sure if Owusu wasn't sh*t he'd still be here with us now. And if not with us then with another Premiership or Championship side. But he's not is he. So he is sh*t.

Stand up, for Steve Coppell!

Err.....didn't Steve Coppell spend £2.5 million on this 'clown'?

He did. But, as other posters have commented, it was a committed and shrewd decision to offload him.

Why would Owusu still be with us ?
He did the job required at the time required. That was 3 years ago.
He's not a Premiership standard player and no one claimed he was.
I had you down as being older than 12, but I guess i was wrong

To be honest, the only noticeable speciality this boy has is his throw. Anyone see any glimpse of anything that might better his throw ins last season? Not me.

Yes he bought him with the single intention of selling him on  Coppell's record in the transfer market since January 2006 has been abysmal yet you can't criticise him.

We were lucky with Halford that some other mug had cash on the hip. 8)

Also fitting that his best signing in that timespan is a certain Michael Duberry. The only one who has come in and played regularly and he was the one criticised the most at the time of his signing.

He certainly cut a lonely figure before the match stood in the dugout in his suit on the phone.

Halford has AIDS.

Kes

Halfords career at Reading was cut short due to the player turning up to training out of his head a couple of times.

Glen Little seems to think, and I quote "There was this guy who we've paid a record fee for turning up to training and we're all thinking, he just plain isn't good enough".

Possibly his AIDS weren't good enough either.

Coupled with the fact that Haford wasn't happy to wait - his attitude is "I'm your record signing, so it's my right to start every match."

"I firmly believe we have a better team than Reading did last season. To be signed by Roy Keane is a massive compliment. He was the main reason why I came and signed for Sunderland."

I was really hoping Halford would play but in reality I suspect he has played his last ever game in The PL.

The guy just hasn't got it. Hughes and Halford for £3.5m... Maybe Lita can give us more cause for mirth in January.
