Exactly

I am, still confused as to why there was a negative (maybe that is too strong a word? - shall we agree on muted....?!?) reaction to the signing of N. Hunt. Sure, it is part of supporting a team in the English leagues to laugh at the SPL but the standard is not that bad and the goals N. Hunt scored last season made him a great capture I thought. Whatever peoples thoughts on the ability of SPL defences he also scored the goals last season so was an inform confident player unlike (for arguments sake) Hulse.

Guess it also part of supporting any football team to always look on the bleak side...........

Have said on here before that having seen Noel Hunt on several occassions up here both live and on TV that he would be one of the better players over recent times to have moved south from the Scottish Premier League, and that is being proven now to be true, although I never for one minute thought that he would turn out like he has. Up here he always had bags of energy, enthusiasm and was always a danger in front of goal, but he has upped his game and I for one will be amazed if he isnt hovering around the 20 goal mark at the end of the season. Additionally what has been mentioned on here Armstrong has been an absolute revelation, never saw that one coming, Brilliant replacement for Shorey.

hes looking a steal for the price, as is armstrong
amazing how coppell and co can continue to wring improvements out of our players too as they are both improving as they go

would still llike to see how much nhunt gets out of bikey in training before giving him the nod over hulse, but you have to love the guy, got bags of energy, effort, skill, technique, and a great leap
i wouldnt swap, but that may just be because hes a reading player and hulse isnt

I was reserving judgment on the latter two, but give it maybe half a dozen more games at the current standard...

Early in the season one of my friends I go to the games with said 'We really need a striker that can score 20 goals a season.'

My response was 'We have one Noel Hunt.'

He looked really impressive at the luton game always looking for the ball through the channels. It seems as soon as the rest of the team knew his capabilities both him and doyle started scoring.

The fact is we have two strikers well on the way to 20+ goals with doyle remembering which cupboard he left his scoring boots in. :)

Hulse vs Hunt = Hunt everyday of the week 8)

If we Doyle/Hunt play every game left this season promotion will be assured imo.

S.Hunt is replaceable, not sure the partnership our front two have is.

I hope Armstrong has another superb game this weekend, especially considering the opponents.

'greed

He is bound to get some stick but hopefully that will just fire him up. He seems to be enjoying playing for the club and long may it continue.

I agree with most of the others in that Noel Hunt has exceeded most of our expectations.
The question of Hulse v Hunt is not that straight forward.
As Floyd said at the start Hunt is playing in a team that probably creates more chances and (like Kitson) Hulse does act as an extra defender at set pieces so his value to the team as a whole is more than just for scoring goals.
Also yesterday Hulse was marked by Bikey-how do people think Hunt would get on against Bikey?
No doubt so far Hunt has done very well (as Lita did after his not-so-cheap signing) and long may that form continue right through to the end of the season and IF we keep Doyle the highest scoring partnership in The Championship could see us into the play-offs or even better.

Coppell 's talent is for finding players who have a zest for proving themselves and improving their game (with a few rare exceptions  ). The Hunts are probably 60 % talent, 40 % hard graft and attitude, and it makes them a joy to watch.

The point has been raised of Hulse acting as an extra defender yet I counted on 4 occasions yesterday the ball being cleared from derby corners or free kicks by a certain irish fellow called noel.

Hulse is one of those players like Sonko, Dean Ashton, Dean Whitehead who have not managed to recapture their very best form after very serious injury.
I wish all of them all the best but I am absolutely delighted that we have Noel Hunt.

Excellent in the SPL. Suprised nobody else signed him. Top bit of business.

But why were your expectations so low?

18 goals in 44 appearances for a team playing in the SPL is the mark of a good player no matter how much you want to laugh at the standard of football in Scotland.

Just beacuse he costs a fraction of what we sold Kitson for doesn't mean he will automatically be rubbish

Have a look at the game again. The number of times that Hunt N was the one getting head to ball in our penalty area for corners/free kicks was significant. He does a great deal to bolster the defence - maybe you just miss it?

It's probably the reason tbh. There have been very few in recent years who have been good in the SPL who have made it at all down here. Even the likes of Barry Ferguson and James McFadden among others have struggled to really hit top gear down here.

As for n Hunt, I've been very impressed with him. He's good in the air, he's tireless and he keeps popping up with goals, important goals. Not just that but he's won me at least £75 this year so he is by far and away my favourite Irishman! 8)

New signings all blending in nicely. To echo earlier comments, thought Armstrong was great Saturday. Started the season okay, doing defensive duties well without adding too much going forward. But his attacking play has really improved, underlined by the great cross for Doyle.

N Hunt is another rough diamond of a signing. Eye for goal, excellent in the air (all his flick-ons have purpose) and brilliant work-rate.
