Scouts

by erwin » 24 Feb 2009 00:32

Reading scouts have apparently been watching Portugal's top scorer (14) Nenê, Brazilian, 22. He didn't score at the weekend, and his team, Nacional, lost at Estrela da Amadora. But the boy's mustard.

The problem is that we tend to do a lot of "watching" but little else beyond that - if he's as good as you are saying, then he simply isnt going to come to Reading

It depends on whether his club class themselves as a seller or not?

Nacional is the team from Madeira who sold Ronaldo to Sporting Lisbon before he went to Man Utd. I wonder if Nacional negotiated a sell-on clause when they released him and how much of the gazillions for the Sporting-Utd transfer they actually manged to get.

Erwin will know.

It was a pun, but thanks for the well meaning and, apparently, well-informed response.

Er ... should, but don't, unfortunately.

I don't see why Reading wouldn't be able to buy this bloke. He wouldn't cost more than 5m because he doesn't really have much of a track record yet, apart from this year when he looks like he'll finish top scorer in the Liga. But the question would arise ... would he be allowed to play in England? What are the rules for non-internationals?

If he's an EU citizen he wouldn't need a work permit I don't think. If he's playing in Portugal there shouldn;t be any reason why he can;t play in England

And being Brazilian he'll inevitably do what all the other Brazilians do and find a Portugese grandparent

As I believe you said, the club were willing to part with £4.4m for Brown, why not £5m? £600k isn't a massive difference.

I doubt there have been many if any transfers that have not happened cause JM has refused to cough up the money.

I include Neil Lennon in that, cause even if Gooding doesn't, I remember Gradi coming out and saying he wouldn't sell Lennon to Reading cause he was too good for us.

I remember hearing that at the time too. In fairness to Gradi he was probably right.

I remember hearing that the only time JM has refused to sanction a transfer is when we wanted Upson on a permanent deal.

Yep and to be fair I bet Upson would have been on 2 or 3 times as much as our next highest earner.

JM must love having SSC as manager so much!!

I see he likes to tie defenders in knots.
