Agreed though that they're not exactly pushing this one hard after two more days.

It is on page 2 of the news page.

At the end of the day this is now two day old news and there are newer news stories out there. When something happens with Mills a new story will appear.

Harpers So Solid Crew

Harpers So Solid Crew looks like birmingham may have come up with a higher bid now. £2.5m

And where does that come from??

No mention anywhere on the web.

bloke i buy stock from is Brum fan, says that mcleish is unhappy that they would not bid more to start with, and has persuaded them to go back with a new offer.

I don't believe the bloke. They went for Mills, couldn't get him. Now they've got Johnson. Things have moved on.

Truth is, the OS only put something up because Donny released the news early and BR had promised that something would happen within 48 hours of Saturday. These things usually do take 48-72 hours to finalise, don't they?

Matt Mills to join Brendan's Babes
By Jonny Fordham
August 05, 2009

Matt Mills is set to complete his £2million move from Doncaster Rovers today and become the latest rising young star to join Reading.

The highly-rated centre-back had attracted interest from Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest.

But Mills is expected to sign a three-year deal at Madejski Stadium and become manager Brendan Rodgers’ first summer buy.

Royals agreed a fee with Doncaster late on Monday and Mills was at Hogwood Park yesterday evening for a medical and to hammer out personal terms with director of football Nick Hammond.

The Swindon-born 23-year-old is set to meet and train with his new team-mates today before being unveiled as a Reading player tomorrow.

It is believed that the initial fee is around £1.5million, but if Royals get promoted that would rise to £2million.

Mills, who will be the third most expensive signing in the club’s history, is set to be included in Reading’s squad for their first
Championship game of the season against Forest at Madejski Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

He joins a host of youngsters being given their chance by Rodgers.

Mills was at Southampton Academy with England and Arsenal ace Theo Walcott and he had loan spells at Coventry City and Bournemouth.

He then went to Manchester City before becoming Doncaster’s record transfer when they signed him for £300,000 in July 2008.

He made 45 appearances for Rovers last season.

His arrival could pave the way for Cameroon defender Andre Bikey to leave. French club Marseille are interested in acquiring Bikey’s services for around £2.5million.

However, he exclusively told the Post two weeks ago that he is happy at the club and is not actively seeking a move away from Berkshire.

Bikey is suspended for the first three games of the season following his red card against Burnley in the play-offs last season.

Lets just hope Johnny Fordham doesn't have the same source that the Forest bloke did!

Is that a BBC Radio thing? Or is there anyway to listen to the show again?

It's commercial radio so nothing to do with the BBC. Have a look http://www.talksport.net/

He also spoke about his choice of captain, to be announced to the squad on Thursday and made public after that. Said he liked the Terry/Lampard model of having a good vice captain for when the 1st choice isn't on the field (Gunnar / Pearce anyone?). How the club had developed over the 5 years he had been away (excellent training facilities), how 6 or 7 academy graduates will feature heavily in the first team squad this season....and how Bertrand is the next Ashley Cole.

Of more interest was that he mentioned that he's still trying to bring in 1 or 2 more players to add experience as we have a young squad.

Not much to discuss with family after a medical, before yes. I was told he was here yesterday for a medical, but heard nothing more yet. Must be an announcement shortly though. Terms are agreed.

EDIT: Now in Bracknell paper.

How do you know when he gets a chance to speak to and think it over with his family?

It sounds like the deal is done, it's just announcing it to the public and doing the press conference that is being put off until tomorrow. That might be because they're planning on making it a double announcement and need to complete another deal(s) before holding the press conference, or it might just be that today is a big day on the training pitch in preperation for Saturday and they don't want to drag a new player and the manager away from that.
