Uhh he's not an idiot and thats coming from a Rangers fan.

O'dea is probably celtics most level headed honest player.

LOL he was more then good enough for us, probably the 3rd best CB we've had at the club this year behind Mills and Zurab, perhaps even better then Zurab.

Yeah, I thought he looked pretty good. In retrospect he might have lacked a little heart for a relegation tussle with little old us, but apart from that I thought he was pretty classy. Quick too.

To be '3rd best CB' actually means he wasn't quite good enough though....

It's hardly a ringing endorsement and probably even very questionable.

I don;t think he'll be remembered for long.

File under Paddy Kelly.

File under Paddy Kelly? You're having a laugh, Kelly was excellent but had injury basically end his career.

I think O'Dea was totally over rated when he came down here and I wasn't too impressed to be honest and the only similarity is the Celtic connection.

Shame on you!

Not at all.

Two young players clearly with a bit of ability but for different reasons never had the chance to really do much here.

I'm amazed you think Celtic was the only similarity
- age
- position
- type of player
- irish
- limited number of games

I'm not sure your personal assessment on limited evidence should lead me to have any shame !!!

Thought he looked extremely classy, but made costly mistakes. In the team under McD I think he would be a superb partner for Mills.

Only have 2 memories of O'Dea's time here - not communicating with Federici for Watford's goal and getting turned by Lita en route to the South Stand

Whereas I have yet to see what all the hype around him is about

He couldn't get a start in the Celtic defence ahead of Caldwell, McManus nor Loovens.

Plus he appears to be a ball playing defender who is a bit short of defensive qualities - can't remember the number of times I've heard a report on the radio saying words to the effect: -

"Celtic have conceded...Darren O'Dea mistake" (or words to that effect)

As far as his time with us is concerned, another victim of Rodgers sales pitch.

In terms of how good he looked for us in their respective Reading careers he's miles off of Kelly though. That was the key for me and why I don't think they should be compared, unless you want to compare Brayson with Beardsley that is!

O'Dea "Brendan taught me a lot and I still have a lot of time for him."
Brendan has alot of time for him too, it's not as if he has anything else to do.

O'Dea's record here is not a pretty picture on paper. Played 8, won 1, drew 2, lost 5, Conceding 15 along the way.

12-09-2009 Football League Championship Reading 0-0 Doncaster
16-09-2009 Football League Championship Reading 0-1 Cardiff
19-09-2009 Football League Championship Peterborough 3-2 Reading
26-09-2009 Football League Championship Reading 1-1 Watford
29-09-2009 Football League Championship Preston 1-2 Reading
03-10-2009 Football League Championship Reading 0-2 Middlesbro
17-10-2009 Football League Championship West Brom 3-1 Reading
20-10-2009 Football League Championship QPR 4-1 Reading

I know its naive to automatically associate the two, especially considering our form without him wouldn't have been much different, but his record doesn't make pretty reading.

Maybe, but given some of the awful managers who have spent many years in different jobs it's hardly surprising. Especially seeing as he obviously interviews very well.

Again I agree. Mills and O'Dea at this level would be very impressive in my view. In that respect Rodgers did well...bizarre he didn't play them very often...but then again he did make our other centre-halves captain and deputy and probably felt he had an allegiance to play them instead. It helped lose him his job.

he lost his place to injury, and while he was out we won a couple of games, and a decent run, so ivar and pearce were kept in.
