Early kick off, utterly outplayed for 75 minutes, 2 quick goals and cue mass exodus of ever so passionate and loyal Mackems with 10 minutes to play.
Mad drive to Morpeth to my mate's house via the bookies for the National in a car covered in Wearside spittle, win £50, stop off at a petrol station on the A19 outside Middlesbrough on the way back down South only to be offered outside by a still disgruntled Mackem some 6hrs after the game had finished, much to the amusement of the various assembled Smoggies. And people wonder why I think Sunderland is populated by inbred morons with a collective IQ in single figures. To be honest, in my 5 years hiking up and down the M1 between Reading and Yorkshire, of all the service station football morons that I have encountered, I'd say about 90% have been from Sunderland.
Pretty bloody good day and bar a Kitson hat-trick against West Ham, the one highlight of the last 5 months of that season.
