Archie's penalty We've had great goals

Have we?

I can only recall 3 outstanding goals from this world cup and 2 of them were this morning.

cmonurz Noticed that myself, there's a few others too who will bulldoze through 100 caps with ease

Lucas Poldolski, 25 (78 caps, 40 goals)
Bastian Schweinsteiger, 25 (79 caps, 21 goals)
Philip Lahm, 26 (70 caps, 4 goals)
Per Mertesacker, 25 (67 caps, 1 goal)

Rooney has played 64 times for England aged 24, and Messi 49 for Argentina, aged 23, Ronaldo 76 caps for Portugal aged 25.

Jeez I didn't know Podolski was only 25. Lahm also seems to have been around for a heck of a long time. The bulk of their starting line-up will be around for the next World Cup and beyond.

This one's been a long way from the best I've watched.

For me, the one I most enjoyed was Argentina '78.
The noise, the spectacle, the paper raining down at the River Plate stadium on the opening game Vs France.
Mario Kempes, Dutch "total football", Archie Gemmill's dribble and goal
Loads of long range screamers.

I was actually thinking of Saurez's goal in the round of 16 but Honda's free kick too I suppose.

Nice headed goal today as well, but nothing 'spectacular'!

You of all people surely do not give in to the mindless majority? You are not alone....and there is no point in preaching to the converted.

In fact don't answer that, its not something I particularly fancy debating again.

My discomfort with the whole thing is my own

This World Cup was a kind of one and only. Been there and loved the atmosphere. Local people are very kind and I had a lot of fun with them. I believe most of travelling fans to South Africa enjoyed this opportunity. That tells all.
