floyd__streete I said in pre-season that I was seeing far too much of our Alex Pearce and Jem Karacan in the starting line-up for my liking. If these two are regular Championship-quality players then my name is Brendan Rodgers.

Did you actually watch any pre-season games. They've both looked solid and Jem has been one of our best players in pre-season. Hence his start today. Didnt do alot wrong today but he doesnt work well with Gunnar.

Nearly cost us a goal, that 4v1 was entirely his fault. He should not be in this team, baffling decision to start him in front of the proven tabb and howard.

Indeed. Scunny were probably just worth their 3 points, but Brian handed them the initiative by starting Jem and Gunnar. Far too defensive for a home game for my liking.

Defensively we were a shambles today, Griff was the best, but that's not saying much. Pearce was as he always is. He really hasn't come on at all.

He was awful today, but a fair way better than his central defensive partner.

I thought the rest of the team played ok.

Sorry Joe but I really disagree with you and have to wonder what game you were watching if you thoughts Mills was worse than Pearce.

rob the royal did you see him trying to get back!?! I thought the were showing a slow mo and then I remembered it was real life and not on telly and he really was going that slow.

ALOL

I liken Pearce to an old faithful sheepdog. Can't do a proper job but will keep on trying regardless. Too slow and blind to catch sheep. The humane thing to do would be put him down.

We would then have to play Bryn at centre back with Mills. :|

Look it wasn't a good performance by the majority, only Mcanuff and Sig can come out of the game with any sense of credit IMO

That doesn't excuse some of the basic errors Pearce did, shouldn't have conceded the corner for their winner and if he's so good in the air why did the majority of his headers go out of play or to a Scunny player?

He's shown not an ounce of improvement since I first saw him play at Northampton a few years ago in pre season. If competition for CB was as spicy as it is for CM then Pearce would be looking for a new club alongside the unfortunate Scott Davies

TBF, either of Scunny's CDs could do better than Pearce.

Totally agree. I don't understand why we are making fundamental changes to the midfield that worked so well at the back end of last season. Howard and Tabb must be wondering what they've done wrong, being replaced by a veteran squad player and a guy who is still not proven at this level, and looks a bit lightweight in the challenge. Perhaps just McD's lack of experience, but going back to the issue at hand, Alex Pearce really does not look like a championship centre half. Ivar is over the hill, so we really do need to invest.

On this thread he 'has a massive future' and is a 'definite future captain'. Only a year ago.

MmmMonsterMunch Agree about donkey Pearce but Mills was a shower of shit today as well. Doesn't bode well at all seeing as Ivar is so injury prone. Think Mills is overrated & we probably paid too much for him & are now stuck with him. I hate the fact he is captain too - give it to Griff.

Good shout about Griffin, he's been consistently solid everytime i've seen him and he's the most experienced 1st choice player too. Glad i'm not the only one on here who thought that Mills was shit too. He was worse than Pearce yesterday for me. At fault for the 2nd goal when he was beaten in the air and was later skinned for pace. At that moment i actually turned away as i couldnt bear to watch! Wasn't convinced by him in the 1st half of last season but he won me round in the 2nd half. But he went right back to square one with his performance yesterday. He was our worst player imo and as captain that doesn't say a lot.

Had to be pedantic but that's more like 18 months ago and further vindicates the point of the majority in that he's not kicked on from showing that potential to improve into a player capable at this level.

Before the majority had seen him play a competitive fixture.

July and August 2009. You're not being pedantic, just wrong. Not on form today, cocaine in your Weetabix?

BMcD must have seen something in training that warranted the change. I would rather back the opinion of someone who knows what he is doing to that of a keyboard warrior.

Hammers home my point really. People far too quick to bracket someone as 'a future captain' or a complete waste of space.

Read it as Jan 2009 not Jul 2009, not really the best of days thus far - must still be pissed

I saw some old bitch doing a BSM 3 point turn in Cintra Avenue last week quicker than Pearce turns on the turf.

The bloke is best described as 'limited', or 'basic', and in my book thats not championship standard.
