Gandalf Presley Amazed there has been no mention of Wolves home game in 94/95. McGhee had just left and this game probably typiifed the quality that the team had at the time. Preston (a) in 05/06 is another as I should have known then this was going to be a season to remember. Lastly, and another for the old g1ts, comprehensively outplaying a recently relegated from the prem Oldham (ask your dads, it is true) at the ever cold Boundary Park again in 94/95 - I finally acccepted Osborn was a better player than Kevin Dillon...

That is a great shout and I was hard pushed to leave that one out. After Robin Friday, Simon Osborn is the best player I have seen in the hoops and that day I witnessed his best performance. I still wa nk to the reverse pass from Jimmy Quinny to get Gilkesy in for the fourth. A brilliant team performance on a very emotional day. Still have the vid as well.

Better than Dariusz Wdowczyk? Os did score some crackers but the one that would have been goal of the whatever was the one he spanked against the post at EP against Wolves in 94/5. If the goal was still standing it would still be vibrating.

That was brilliant. Brian Moore thought it was Archie at the time.

Jackson Corner As a lot of games have already been mentioned, to be different

1979 Reading 4 Aldershot 0 Part of that great team that didn't concede a goal for 1,103 minutes and won the title to boot.
1987 Reading 3 Chelsea 1 A full strength Chelsea team ripped apart by the pace of Gilkes in the league cup.
1993 Blackpool 0 Reading 4 A sublime display of passing football which even had the home fans aplauding us off the pitch.

I was only thinking of that Blackpool game earlier today. Burnley away was a bit special too where Mick Gooding scored with a header

Cu nt.

Yep!

Cambridge away on a warm spring evening in 1976. A 2-2 draw and our 1st promotion in 50 years. All on the pitch afterwards and the players throwing their shirts to us. Happy dayz.

Blackpool 0 Reading 4 - Dylan scoring a beauty from outside the area, exhibition stuff in the second half and the home fans applauding us off the pitch. It had been trying to rain all morning but the sun came out at 3pm

Reading 3 Nottingham Forest 3 - I was expecting us to get absolutely rinsed that day. Steve Stone's miss, a dodgy penalty (The ball hit Linvoy's thigh and rolled up onto his forearm), an appalling penalty/sending off decision that gets us back into the game, A Jamie Lambert wonder goal, a towering header from Linvoy, Chettle's world class save from a Skippy cross. Absolute end to end game that had everything, drama, controversy, great goals, passion, atmosphere, dodgy reffing, comdedy misses.

Reading 4 Luton 1 - To be honest, the whole Simod Cup run was brilliant and I went to all six games, from a late comeback at Loftus Rd just before Christmas through to the final but I have to pick the final. Our first visit to Wembley, our first proper silverware (well, kind of), For 90 minutes we stood as equals with one of the best teams in the country and scored 3 great goals that belied our long ball reputation. Gilkes' finish was sublime but my favourite was Mick Tait's. A lung bursting 60yd break form Neil Smillie, cut inside, pinpoint pass and measured finish. And to think we'd did it without a recognised forward, having sold the player most responsible for getting us there and our two main strikers being cup tied

Take note kids, FDTW is quite right - Luton finished 8th in the top flight that season, won the League Cup and reached the semis of the FA Cup. Where are they now?

I've always quite liked Luton; Simod final, first game at the Madj - they figure prominently in our history. For all the hand-wringing over RFC's transfer policy in the last 2 years it is always good to remember that there is always someone worse off.....

Reading 2 Wigan 1

As has been said this game had everything and I also realised just how frightening it is when a police horse charges at you (well not me but someone else very close on the pitch) and weren't there also riot police and dogs and even helicopters?!

Leicester 1 Reading 1

Not so much the game but after the game. Singing was superb, scarves twirling, players sliding, Coppell's jacket thrown into the crowd (he's excited!), Leicester fans watching ("you're going up, you're going down"). Only regret was couldn't go out in Reading afterwards

Man United 1 Reading 1

A great day out and a competitive gritty performance. Fed made unbelievable saves, De La Cruz outstanding mazy run(s), Gunnar's goal, stayed nearby and went to a pub where argued about the merits of the two teams with Kevin from Coronation Street

Was this all in a different lifetime?

Archies Left Foot 20/04/02 - Brentford 1-1 Reading

Promotion from the 3rd tier, everyone going absolutely hatstand when Curo's equaliser lifts over the keeper, god it took an age for that ball to drop into the net, Andy Hughes on top of the team coach back at the Mad Stad, me dancing around holding a pint of beer on my head (I still have no idea to this day why)...

When someone comes to re-write the history of the club then Brentford away should get its very own chapter. The silent journey up to Brentford on a rickety old slam-door train, the pre-match pint in The New Inn which didn't really want to go down. The sense that Reading fans were outnumbering Brentford fans despite this being an away game. Lloyd Owusu skinning his man and Rowlands smashing Brentford into the lead. A phone call from a colleague at the Madj, the big screen had gone down and fans back in Reading were literally in the dark. THAT goal, one of Parky's last touches in a Reading shirt flicking on the Viveash free kick. Outrage when a stonewall freekick wasn't given in favour of Forster who was chopped down right in front of us. An interminable 13 minute + wait and then we were there. A less than friendly invasion of Brentford fans at the end. Bas Savage break-dancing. A beaming Curo held aloft on Parky's shoulders. The train home, standing room only and ear-drums perforated. A brick coming through the window and almost hitting some bloke on the bonce. Some boke shaking everyone's hands back at Reading station as the hoardes descended from the train, into the Guineas and dancing on the tables with only a few Chelsea fans spoiling for a fight likely to sour the atmosphere. At the Madj, Jon Mackie dances on the roof of the returning team bus. The following day a parade of a town, back home to throw up, fall asleep and wake up at 7pm with a terrible hangover.

couldn't get to this game for some reason so listened at home on the radio - the last ten minutes was never ending

sounds like it was a great day out

At 3, Reading 4 v 3 Oxford
in the raiiiiiin
At 2, Reading 3 v 2 Palace
with THAT goal
At 1, Reading 2 v 1 Wigan
what a comeback!

Honourable mentions:
Reading 6 v 0 West Ham
Reading 3 v 1 Liverpool
Reading 2 v 1 Wolves
Wolves 1 v 3 Reading
Reading 3 v 2 Boro
Reading 5 v 0 Derby
Reading 1 v 0 QPR

Sorry, my list went a little long. I've come to realise that it's good to be a Reading fan just looking at that list... And there are many more enjoyable games too.

Watched the Palace 3-2 behemoth again last night. Ruddy epic...

Kiraly's tracksuit from Matalan,
Leroy's shorts at their very biggest and best,
Johnson's good penalty shout,
Doyle's skillz goal,
Johnson's lightning quick reply,
Johnson's injury,
Little waltzing past all and sundry,
Morisson's goal straight after half time,
Doyle getting a penalty,
Leroy having said penalty saved,
Leroy missing the rebound,
Penalty being retaken,
Kiraly thwarting Little's retake,
Dowie getting sent to the stands,
Leeeeroy's bicycle kick,
Pace changing from 200 to 300 miles an hour,
Chances at both ends,
Hunt being a meek and hardworking understudy to the mighty Robert Convey... With short hair,
Sonko in the 80 something minute...

Surprised there's been no mention of the end of (promotion) season game against Brighton. Red hot day, we get a dodgy penalty, Brighton denied a stonewall penalty, Quinn with a injury time second. Cue pitch invasion and police horses.
Followed up with an extremely hazy night in the AD (I think Toyah was playing that night).

An exhibition of some of the finest football ever played in Reading, and a truly memorable match. I'd have it in my top 3, even though we were well beaten.
My other 2 entries (FWIW) would be the playoff final v Bolton at the old Wembley stadium, and beating Middlesbrough 3-2.

There are so many others that could get honourable mentions, but those are the Top 3 memorable games for me.
