Platypuss
West Stand Man I'll bet the STGs are all feeling bit hacked off at the moment.

Now I've seen some moronic statements in my time (and I've contributed a fair few myself) but that really sets a new low.

Yeah, was deliberately placed too. Brilliantly worked corner, Forest defender saw it coming, but about half a second too late to get there well enough.

You don't notice it from the highlights, but if you watch the full 90 mins of Reading World there's something very interesting from Karacan's goal. All the Reading players in the box push so far forward that Karacan has about a 15ft radius of space around him. By the time the Forest defence realise the amount of space he has, it's too late! That was either a perfectly executed set piece routine, or we were very lucky. I reckon its the first option!

As the ball was teed up at the corner flag, I pointed out to the missus that Forest had every defender inside the 6yd box and a ball to the pen spot would prove useful...

In all honesty, and as stated elsewhere, that was probably the best occasion since the Anfield/Hawthorns cup games and easily one of the very best RFC games I have ever watched, certainly away from home. You live and yearn for football days like these...they don't come along very often. I'll take scrappy one-nil'ers from now until the end of the season if it gets us up, but the Leeds game has the potential to be just as good.

Not that surprising, we've had about half a dozen from corners this season, and it isn't just one person putting in good balls, it's McAnuff, Howard & Harte.

URZZ - Karacan arrived quite late to the box iirc... he seemed to hang back, then either as part of the plan or when he saw the space and realised he wasn't needed so deep he went forward. Forest saw it as you say, but a fraction to late to get anything more than a half challenge in.

Not a bad read but seriously:

We then paid for missed chances when we conceded a dreadfully soft penalty after David McGugan willingly crumbled like a paper bag...

But given previous analysis of goals from corners, when someone (may have been you) pointed out that goals are only scored from about 2 to 3% of corners, any goal from a corner is a surprise!

Also you said we started the day in 5th and Forest 6th, when we started 6th and Forest 7th.

Not bad though.

I knew goals from corners are rare, I didn't post any specific stats that I recall. In general it is a surprise to score from a corner. It is less of a surprise for us to score from a corner at the moment, seeing as we have three excellent corner takes and a decent record of scoring from them already this season.

Not being a surprise, does not necessarily mean that it would be a common occurance though.
