For those going on about the kids:

My 'kids' are now in their late teens and absolutely passionate supporters who support the club both vocally and financially home and away (wheneever the can). My son started watching as a 4 year old on the Southbank. At times when he couldn't see, I held him up or put him on my shoulders. At other times I made sure he was stood by or sat on the wall at the front. When my daughter started to come to games we had moved into the dreaded seated era. When people in front of her stood, I didn't moan, I lifted her up or got her to stand on her seat - no problems and she loved it. She didn't want to sit in an area where everyone sat without any passion, neither did my son. As a 9 year old my daughter told her mum that she couldn't go to a game 'because you don't know the songs and you won't shout loud enough'!

As for the swearing, do these parents make sure the tv in their household is turned off at 9pm prompt or do they let their kids stay up and watch programmes complete with swearing? Even if they strictly observe the watershed, they are clearly unaware of the language used around schools and in the streets. It's futile to try to stop kids hearing bad language; the sign of a good parent is teaching kids that just because they hear something, it isn't always acceptable for them to say similar things.

My kids very quickly learned what was right and wrong in terms of language and that words heard in passion on the terraces and stands were not for general usage.

That doesn't mean my kids aren't respectful of others and spend the whole game swearing - quite the opposite. Yesterday, when my son lost patience with Dowd's complete lack of consistency and used the f word, my daughter pointed out a couple of youngsters a few rows in front and he then tried his best to control his anger and language.

Royal Rother the fact that even the vast majority of Mad Stad regulars / non-plastics would rather there was no foul mouthed abuse

79Royal I was embarrassed by my behaviour at certain points of the game, especially when I realised there were three VERY young children sat behind me (if you were the father of kids behind me in 137, I am sincerely sorry), but I really couldn't help myself. That game meant a lot and it hurt when we were down and when we started our come back, I got up and sang until I was so hoarse I couldn't sing any more.

Go to a big game at Wembley and you have to expect some people to want to show passion by standing up and singing. Perhaps you shouldn't have to hear the language that came from me though...

Good for your honesty, mate.Pity you didn't apologize to the parents face to face (or did you?)

The passion of a Wembley final eh!?

oh please we are in 2011, not 1950's.....people swear on tv, films, outside footy matches, etc......its not always great but doesnt mean the person is ignorant.....its just words, if you are upset by that then you must have an easy life and a very pathetic person to worry about such trivial things

We're so middle class.

Only Reading supporters could fall into pages hand-wringing introspection about swearing the day after one of the biggest defeats in our history.

Fans swear at football matches. It happens. It always will happen. Kids grow up in a world full of swearing. It happens. It always will happen.

Was in 134. Great atmosphere and no real problems, only when a few minutes in people first started to sit down, a few blokes (no rfc colours but knew the chants) in the row behind me continued to stand, cue the shouts of "Sit Doooowwwwwnnnn!!!" Which were coming from some middle aged blokes (in replica shirts) about 4 or 5 rows back! FFS they would have been able to see over them!! They then accused each other of plastic-ness but thankfully it didnt last.

After that everybody continued to keep getting up and down depending on who was attacking, not many daytrippers around me but they seemed to make the effort to join in with standing and singing which was good to see.

And I now have absolutely no voice left!

That Friday Feeling Maybe next time the club should use the East Stand ticket windows to create an "East Stand" at Wembley and ask the ticket agents/website to identify what part of the Mad people would normally choose to sit in. It wouldn't solve all the problems but at least folk would have an expectation of the type of fans they would be sitting (standing) with.

I've got no problem with passion and swearing at football, I enjoyed my days in the Southbank, but now, as a parent I appreciate being able to bring my kids to the West Stand where they will hear swearing but not with the same level of vitriol generated over in the east. I'm sure my boys will grow up to follow RFC and will in turn do their stint in Y26 while I sit in the Upper West with a blanket on my knees.

We did have an issue with two fellas sitting just behind us in 238. I really don't know what they were thinking - Club Wembley seats, £80 notes a pop, surrounded by families. But these were real fans, real passion.

"Dowd, take your oxf*rd cock out of their arses"

"Sheep, sheep, sheep shaggers"

"Dowd, take your oxf*rd cock out of their arses"

"oxf*rd useless"

"Dowd, take your oxf*rd cock out of their arses"

"What a waste of oxf*rd £75"

"This is shit, I want to go home"

"I've texted my mate, we're going to fcuk up some Swansea after"

I was as much depressed by their inability to think of anything original or amusing to say as I was uncomfortable that my children had to listen to this degenerate.

No-one grassed them up to the stewards but one dad asked them to moderate their language as there were kids all around them. "It's a oxf*rd football match, what do you oxf*rd expect?"

There were 40,000 of our fans at Wembley. I guess the OP would be happier with 8,000 Royals dotted about. Room to stand without obstructing anyone's view and no-one upset by a few cuss words.

zzzzzzzzz, maybe you should watch opera next time, or just wrap your kids in cotton wool

Christ, what a depressing response to a balanced and non-confrontational post.

RoyalBlue Thank you very much to the whinging, seated day trippers who did their absolute best to kill off the support in Block 133.

I bet you're the type to book a table in Stringfellows and then complain that there is a lot of bare flesh on display!

Some education for you. If you book seats right behind the goal, particularly when supporters are talking about that being the really vocal section, then you are likely to find people standing, singing and chanting. What's more, the further you sit towards the back of a stand, the more likely your view will be obstructed. That having been said, is your view really blocked by people standing 5 rows further down from you? If you want a clear view then go for seats nearer the front.

Anyway, these clowns moaned, even when people only stood for corners etc.

When we were 3-0 down there were just a handful of us stood desperately trying to get some support going for the team. The whingers sat miserable and defeated but would probably have been the first to moan about players giving up.

Come half-time there were all sorts of ructions due to objections to our standing. Yes, you miseries, I accept my £64 is worth no more than your £64. We've both paid the same, you choose to sit, I choose to stand!

Guess what? Once the team show great character to really get back into the game, who is now standing and applauding? The seat lovers! And with 10 minutes left to go, who has given up and b*ggered off early? The seat lovers!

So next time, please put your £64 towards your Sky subscription and sit comfortably at home on your settee with only the dog to get in the way. Then if things aren't going our way you can switch to another channel and you won't even have to leave early!

Row Z Royal
Hugo Boss Didn't get told to sit down or anything and I aint gonna moan about "daytrippers", but I will have a moan about the 2 w*nkers in the concourse at half time who started kicking off at me and my m8 for "laughing". When we questioned it, they said we shouldn't be laughing cos "we're losing". :|

Inbreed, weirdo c*nts. FOAD.

Did you just pull a face at them (other than the beautiful specimen you've been blessed with, of course) and wander off? It's a very strange thing for someone to say.

In a response that Spacey woulda been proud of, I shrugged my shoulders, gave a confused look and told them to "calm down FFS". I'm still genuinely confused by what their issue was. T*ssers.

Avon Royal Fuck off and never come back.

That really mattered to some of us. Have never been so ashamed to be a Reading fan. What happened on the pitch was football, it happens. However, what happened in the stands was unforgivable. Getting real fans ejected because they show passion is lower than low. If you don't like shouting and swearing then stay at home.

Oh, and nobody gives a fuck if there are kids present.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I want to start off by saying I wholeheartedly agree with the first sentence. Having people gawk at me when trying to get the fans back in it at 2-0 was just ridiculous. I only felt embarrassed for them however, rather than myself.

Gordons Cumming If you pay for seat you expect to be able to sit in it and see the game.

Whether you go to all the games and sing your heart out or Wembley was your first, that is your right.....

Sorry to all you true Reading fans

That's absolutely right Gord.......

The problem at the moment is that there is only one choice that all different types of fans have to go with. We all have to sit.

You need terraces for the passionate and vocal supporters, family areas for families, general seating. Every stadium needs a mix of different types of accommodation to cater for all the different types of people that support a football club. Otherwise you get all of these problems of families with children sitting next to noisy, rude supporters.

The FA and the government really need to take another look at the issue of terracing. Bring the terraces back. It's about time. The atmosphere at games would be so much better. And terraces can be more affordable for people. Make football affordable again for those on lower incomes. The game has been robbed from the original followers of the sport. Football is all about the community. Bring it back to the community again. Make it for everyone.

Terraces for the partisan fans. Safe family areas for the young kids. Comfortable seats and prawn sandwiches for the middle class brigade. Bring it back to the people. 40,000 people from all walks of life in Reading are interested.

Before I reveal our identity do you have some sympathy for our dilemma or not?!

I have to say that towards the end of the first half I said to myself

'f*ck it, we are 3-0 down, it's like a morgue and our team need some decent support, if I get thrown out for standing up with my kids and trying to get some chants going, so be it!'

I can remember thinking a similar thing at Brentford prior to Cureton's goal (yes, I was in the seats then due to the age of my kids). I later felt quite chuffed when Richard Wickson came up to me at the Mad Stad and referred to me as the nutter who had helped get the support going again!

tbf if your seemingly masochistic relationship with football is reflected in other areas of your life, I can imagine a trip to the dentist is pretty much your dream day.

It's not the swearing per se that I have a problem with, it's the spittle, contorted faces, vitriol and sheer hatred it's delivered with that I detest.
