If he passes a detailed and tough medical then he sounds ideal to partner Pearce. Otherwise, not much point in bringing in someone likely to spend half his time on the treatment table. We don't want a replacement for Ivar, we want one for Mills.

Also he is more cumbersome even than Duberry.
He also strikes me as a defender who waits for things to happen rather than take control of a given situation.
We already have a left-back who defends that way so surely we don't need a centre-back who is indecisive?

PEARCEY
andrew1957 If finances are such an issue we could do worse than offer Sonko a year at £10K a week.

He sounds fairly fed up with his last three years since he left and might jump at the chance to come back.

He might not be the player that he once was but could do a job for us.

No way Andrew. Sonko's shot.

Is he any more shot than Anthony Gardner though.

Sonko played 23 games for Pompey who conceded 60 goals last season whereas Gardner played 28 for Palace who conceded 69. Sonko actually did ok at pompey last season.

Nothing to choose between them I would say.

Not quite the true picture.

Gardner played in 27+2 subs for Palace conceding 38 goals.

Sonko played in 20+7 subs for Pompey conceding 46 goals.

Those stats (ignoring all other factors) are strongly in favour of Garnder.

Would a back 4's stats not improve if they had a better midfield in front of them? The reason we conceded fewer goals than many other teams was because we defended and worked better as a team. Could Gardeners stats have been improved with Karacan and Elwood in front of him?

Of course, and better players to his left and right.. Palace are shot to pieces and need some serious investment or they'll find themselves in another relegation scrap this season.

A Trialist.

Not sure about him - seems to have a lot of clubs interested in him every season but never actually signs for anyone.
