Schards#2 I hope Wenger hangs in there, whilst they may not have won a trophy recently, for the neutral, Arsenal have been the most enjoyable Premier League team to watch for most of his tenure.

they never should have moved from highbury.and should have appointed dewey decimal as wengers successor

I haven't bothered to read all 7 pages too see if this point has already been made, but laugh at Arsenal if you wish (I certainly am) but the parallels between them and us are quite striking.

Shit start to the season, sold first team players, left it late to make new signings under pressure from the fans.

Still,

LOL

Agreed. ArsenaLOL haven't won a league game yet and Reading have.

Anyway, I understand that its an issue of wages and the club have a structure and budget that they are willing to bend not break. Hence buying young and building up.

They definitely have that policy, but my point is that if they had made the most of their success under Wenger and their size, they wouldn't need it. Just like Man Utd don't need that policy nor wealthy backers.

I would suggest that United spend significantly more on wages than Arsenal but also get significantly more in.

Deloitte football report should have the answers.

United, obviously, have a very similar approach to transfers - getting the best youngsters, international youth set up but also can spend tens of millions ensuring they get some of the very best, at their best.

In terms of their business model and pretty tight financial management I'd say they're pretty close to be fair.

All clubs fail to hang on to their players to some extent but, like us, Arsenal are very reluctant to go out and buy ready made replacements for their outgoing stars and instead look to breed their own over a long period.

Arsenal are caught between a rock and a hard place. They want to be profitable and make a stand about financials (like Reading) but they also want to win stuff. In this market you can't do both.

Set to sign Mertesacker. I would really like a pairing of him and Vermaelen.

Ju Young Park has signed

His shirt sales, in Korea, alone will pay for the transfer of this one

So you don't see the similarity between us and a team that doesn't like to break it's wage structure or pay [relatively speaking] large transfer fee's for players to go straight into their first team?

Nothing in common with a team that favours developing young talent and getting value for money over buying in proven and established 'finished articles' whilst being a bit on the frugal side and looking after it's bottom line and balance sheet?

No parallels with a team that's held onto some of it's stars for as long as possible to try and get the best fee's for them and then been left a little behind the game trying to plug the gaping holes in it's squad as transfer windows draw to a close.

If not, fair enough, but personally I see some common ground in that and the way we've tried to be coy in the transfer and had to do some late business to address a poor start to the season and weaknesses in the squad.

My understanding was that the Arsenal board were happy for each season to be Champions League later stages and continued qualification, plus a cup but they're a bit random so not too fussed there really.

Good signing, but they also need to be able to keep Vermaelen fit. I'm not convinced by any of their other centre halfs so if I were them I'd still look at getting a decent Premier League centre back in to give them 3 to choose from. Cahill or Jagielka being the obvious Englishmen to add into the mix for them.

You've really got to question Arsenals approach to training etc........surely its not just "bad luck" so many of them are injured so often?
