There are a few things I realised watching his 50 goals:
1) Simon Church should go to League 2 for a bit - the defending is shocking, and anyone could score
2) A lot of those goals are penalties, which do count, but make his strike rate look way better than it is
3) A lot of them were tap-ins caused by the aforementioned terrible defending

So, I would say I'm less confident that he's the saviour than I was when I knew nothing about him.
Fingers crossed.

Pete10 Fair play a good player .Knows where the net is.

A pet hate footballing cliche of mine.

Of course he knows where the bloody goal is. A 4 year old kicking about with his Dad knows where the bloody goal is!!! Doesn't mean he's good enough to play for a professional team.

Instead, say: "He had an excellent goalscoring record at Rotherham and appears to have a knack of getting on the scoresheet."

except that makes it sound like you reckon hes basically shit, and lucky

He's in the right place at the right time, and we've already created a fair few good penalty shouts this season. There are also some very well taken goals in there. He looks to be very calm under pressure and have the scoring knack. If we can give him decent chances I have little doubt he'll put a good proportion away.

If it doesn't take him 3 attempts to score a penalty, it's already an improvement.

Long was much the same player. A fair amount of Long's goals were pens, and if you look back at his goals you'll see that a lot of them are a result of bad defending or a team effort. The only way in which Long really created much was through sheer pace and not skill.

What were you expecting? :|

The problem we've had the last couple of seasons is that noone has been getting in the right places to score goals. How many times have balls come into the box and there's been nobody getting on the end of it?

I'd argue that ALF is exactly what we need.

Just to be clear, I wasn't really arguing anything there, more observing.
He looks like a likeable guy though, and he gets points for a random name so probably on balance I'm positive.

Crap defending or not you've gotta be in the right place to score them which it seems he is better at doing than anyone else in that league. With better training and standard of play(ers) he can only improve.

Long, Kitson and Doyle all came from lower league where they were banging the goals in and continued to do it for us.

Have faith

You can only score against what is put in front of you whether that be half decent or shit defending.

We need a prolific pen taker! He will do
