i think you'll find that many of the smaller less attractive clubs in this situation have actually folded.

Which have disappeared then? Never to have returned.

Folded is Darlington going bust. Not AFC Darlington being born, or any other club for that matter. They still folded.

The actual percentage of clubs that do go out of business having had their 'potentially last game' or 'the last chance saloon' is pretty low, so I can see where Finerain is coming from.

The fact their such a big club in such a tinpot league probably doesn't help their cause though. That ground is a massive white elephant and must cost a bit to run, although how much it also contributes to their income would be interesting to know (not enough it seems!).

There's a big difference between the likes of Aldershot, Chester, Halifax etc folding and forming new clubs, playing in the same ground as before but just a few divisions lower, and a club going bust and genuinely having to start again....eg Accrington Stanley, Bradford Park Avenue, Newport, Scarborough.

It's a much harder road back for those that lose their ground, which looks like Darlington's fate.

Tokyo Sex Whale Its a good post for me but nothing more.

Uses cliches too much and is repetitive. After a few more revisions I think it could be quite stirring.

But I think that adds to its potency. It's not technically very well written but is more of an outpouring and a desperate scramble to hold onto particular feelings for the club. Perfect prose could make for a great screenplay but it's just a normal person letting it all out.

An irrelevant 3-0 stuffing for Darlo. The kick off was delayed for 10 minutes as more than 1,000 away fans turned up.

How do you lose 3-0 when your fans take over a ground in complete passion. How does that fail to motivate you to actually perform?

I dunno, imminent redundancy, a general despondent feeling around the club, Barrow were better on the day, or 100 other reasons why Darlington might lose a match?

For someone who can frequently write very persuasively you are one hell of a simpleton at times.

I think thats a harsh response, Barrow are far from Man City/Man utd at that level ( they are 10th) and it should have meant more to the opposing players as it was likely to be their last match. Turning up and getting spanked 3-0 is pathetic. I can understand losing..but not by that margin.

Only Wrexham have a better home record in the division.

Players unpaid for the past two or three months.....you try motivate yourself each day working for free ....when the missus is nagging you, and the overdraft is growing

Personally I give credit to the Darlo players for even turning up....given the sh1t position that they are in

Deadlock
TBM Who now plays at Elm Park.....

Darlo already sold their town centre ground for housing.

Incorrect.

It is currently owned by Darlington Cricket Club, who use the popular terrace (which still stands) as a sightscreen.

I dare say that they'll be looking to build something on it at some point.

Sounds like a replacement club will have a perfect place to start out at then.

I'm sure I read something somewhere about a year ago that the supporters' trust had already done a feasibility study into returning to Feethams and It is definitely doable with temporary accomodation for about 5,000.

There was an article in WSC.

It's doable, but is going to be very difficult. The local council are being less than helpful. Feethams currently looks like this:

Ah. I was going by this Northern Echo report in 2009 which was referenced by wiki.

Rushden and Diamonds?

They no longer exist AFAIK and Kettering now play at Nene Park.

Kettering themselves are struggling to pay their players at the moment so dark times round Irthlingborough at the moment.

According to the 2001 census, Irthlingborough has a population of 6,179. Whoever thought - apart from Max Griggs - that such a small place could support (in every sense of the word) a big spending football club? Tbf, Rushden itself has a population of 28,368. In Kettering's case, as soon as you move a club away from its conurbation you are in big big trouble; see also Slough Town - currently top of the Southern League Division 1 Central having been Conference regulars up until around a decade ago - and Brighton who moved to Gillingham in 1997 and who then took 14 years to build a proper football stadium in and around their own city.

There is an AFC Rushden and Diamonds. They've dropped right down.
