He's the weak link in a very strong Spurs side. They'd be genuine title contenders without him.

nonsense. in a very attacking side he has added much needed steal to the midfield and protects the defence well. he and modric work very well together and are key to spurs' season so far.

I look forward to seeing our new captain marvel driving us on to victory tonight and in the Euros to come.
What mediocrity we have now come to with the likes of Milner,Barry and Parker being key members of our side.
Steven Gerrard ,a captain and leader of a top club side and the one with most caps and existing vice-captain cast aside to be replaced by a guy of the same age with 10 caps.
Will he now bring back Chris Powell to play left-back?

Pearce is an idiot and the disgraceful inference that Gerrard is a selfish player (Pearce's criterion was that he wanted a team player as captain and not a selfish player)cannot possibly have been watching Liverpool for the past 6 or 7 years.
Pearce of the long-ball game for City,Forest and the U21s now selects both the U21 side and our full international side as well as the Olympic team-what has he shown to be given such responsibilities?
Oh yes he had "passion" because he clenched his fist when he played-this is the 21st century not the dark ages or King Richard going off on crusades-football is now a thinking man's game and this bloke is not the way forward.

With a bit of luck Van Persie won't play and the Dutch will treat it as a training session, something which other countries do but we don't and maybe the real leader will drive us on if he is not too pissed off by being overlooked when as a vice-captain he might logically expected promotion when the regular captain is not available.
Good luck to the young ones that he has selected because as others have said the old guard has failed us so badly and in particular Barry in that Germany game but having said that I do believe that having better players around him at City has mmade him a slightlly better player but that isn't saying much.

Oh no not you again. Spurs biggest coup pre season was the keeper. Throw in the emergence if Walker and a massive improved Bale, Kaboul & Essou-Ekotou (however its spelt) and youll see why Spurs have improved. But the fact remains against the top sides, even with Modric in the team they get passed off the park.

Compared to a player who is not even captain of a side that has not won the league for 50 years and has never won the European cup whereas of course Gerrard is a European cup winner with the most successful English club ever in Europe.
No comparison really is it?

BTW a mate of mine said to me just now "what is all this about building a team for 2014? Surely we have a better chance in a European Championship played in Europe than in a World Cup to be played in South America?"
I don't disagree with him and I think it is just people getting the excuses in early.

Ah I get it now, you're right, if only they'd managed to wheel Scholes into WHL before Ferguson picked him up.

Remind me of Gerrard's performance as England captain? The World Cup. Ah yes, such a great leader that John Terry was happy to totally undermine him at a press conference. And as for on the pitch...

No problems with Parker, current player of the season, playing in a confident side, and gives all for the cause. Also more likely to actually make the Euros if you consider Gerrard's horrendous injury reord for England.

Parker looks out of place in the England side.

He's looking to keep the ball moving, playing short simple passes to open space and retain possession. Hoof it Scott, that's what you're supposed to do.

Super track back to win the ball and then win the follow up tackle on that Dutch break a couple of minutes back. Barry gave away a simple pass I believe.

EditL: fantastic block just then as well
