I think it would be good to have some sort of hooligan re-enactment festival at half time where around 100 or so Leeds fans and a similar number of Reading fans dress up in clothes from the early 80s and beat the living daylights out of each other in a secure enclosure in the centre circle.

It would be great entertainment and a first for the club.

That's surely going to get far more people going than being next to a 12 year old waving a scarf.... Well, most people anyway :?

I wear an actual scarf most games, the one issued to us in 2008 with the embroidery on, but once the weather gets a bit hotter I tend to leave it at home.

bigmike Rumble stix, Music after goals, clappy banners, Bring it on signs and now the scarf thing. What is it with STAR and the people at the club who think this is a good idea?

All the good atmospheres in football are not created with tat like this.

Let the fans support the club with some spontaneity and we may get somewhere. If we cant generate a decent atmosphere in a game against Leeds (who always sell out their away allocation) when we are 2nd in the League chasing promotion with 6 games left do you honestly think that waving scarves is going to help?

I may have spotted the weaknesss in your argument...

Cobi Scarfs are about as original as you can get. It's far from plastic.

Putting out a plea to fans on the interspazz to bring a scarf and wave it around before an important game is pretty "pLOLastic"

The plea is, but the act isn't.

STAR are about as useful as a dry turd.

Good, me too. Leeds fans can join in by singing:

Will probably be less embarrassing than what's coming our way for scarf waving.

Anybody actually thought the football scarf might have had it's day just like the rattle has.

The football scarf is more symbolic than a replica shirt. I see no problem with people holding a scarf over their heads as the players come out, or to a song or two.

Having said that, I don't own a scarf and wont be buying one because STAR want me to.

I have a couple of scarves and a couple of hats too- they are for when it's cold and when I feel proud to support my local team.

Match day? Cheering on our team and joining in the songs. I'm not really sure waving scarves is better than a good song.

I never said they were, but a good atmosphere is generated by noise rather than a waving scarf- don't you think?

There's nothing wrong with doing both at the same time. Liverpool aren't half as passionate and noisy as people like to make out but when they belt out YNWA with scarfs aloft it's a great sight.

Reading doing to Blue Army just isn't the same... To "Super Reading, Super Reading FC..." perhaps less cringy though.

At the end of the day there's nothing wrong with it. What is wrong with this is that it's being orchestrated beforehand.

Instead of a sea of scarves...

how about a plate of seeds?

So, when has anything happened without a bit of orchestration?
Last week we had a 'campaign' to get people to take socks to Upton Park. A few years ago a 'campaign' to get people to bring pants to a game. Nothing happens unless you communicate the intent, be that a buzz around fans or a direct message from the club.

Is this just a case of 'not invented here' syndrome? Ergo, 'we didn't think of this on HNA, so we are going to object to it'. Sounds a bit like it to me. Who knows, it muight just be that this is the start of something a bit more spontaneous in the future.
