Look forward to having to watch the goals from beating Germany 5-1 while the pundits all agree we have a real chance

When were England's last 2 impressive performances in a tournament?

Euro 2004

The only thing in England's favour this time is the unique lack of expectation. In the past, a terrible performance and a 1-0 win would have been treated with scorn in England, now it's something we would be ecstatic with.

Maguire Life is too short to waste your time on one way love. Nothing more cringeworthy than English people toadying up to the Micks, banging on about the craic or trying to claim some distant family link to the emerald isle.

Fukk the lot of them. Fukk their bitter hate. Fukk the chip on their shoulder. Fukk thinking you're hilarious because you tallk quickly in a mick accent. You're not funny, you're acunt. Fcuk o'neills. Fukk colcannon. Fukk Beamish stout. Fcuk point to point racing. Fukk pikeys. Fukk the blarney stone. Fukk Waterford crystal. Fukk leprechauns. And fukk Shane Long.

Der's more to Oireland dan dis?

No, der isn't.

Gonna craic you over the head with my shillelagh if I ever catch you in O'Neils again. Its strictly for Micks only!

Signs of celts sticking together in my North Wales local last night but my improvised ditty of "Bog Trotting in the Ukraine" to the tune of Debbie Harry's "French Kissing in the USA" was not universally well received.

I'm not surprised - it really doesn't scan very well.

I hope so. I hope we start with Ox and Walcott on the wings, but I fear we'll have Downing and Milner.

Going for a 1-0 win, Welbeck to score the only goal.

It's difficult to know what a good performance from this England might be like. Hopefully, it'll start quietly, then after 20 minutes some massive hoof will end at the feet of one of our players who'll score. For the next 70 minutes the French will batter us, but we'll hold on to the win.

As pointed out on the Grauniad's daily live blog, there's a very optimistic poll on our chances on the frontpage of the Evening Post's website... www.getreading.co.uk
