Royal With Cheese At the time I thought it was the shittest Reading badge ever created.

I still do.

I thought/think that about the current one.

Your perogative.

I'm not a fan of the latest badge but it's infinately better than the shield which has no representation of the club I love.

Sorry AD, I have nothing to add in helping with the origination of that abomination, but I reckon it was the work of a six year old.

I'm also with RwC on the current badge.

The only one we have had that was worth its salt was the "elm tree" design. Now, I suppose, the trees would be replaced by plastic rumblestix. Nice.

No apology necessary. I'm not in the least bit offended that I have a different taste in club badge than you, Dick.

Simon's Church Andy Bernal's daughter apparently. The colours represent the earth, sun and sky.

Andy Bernal was 21 when we started using that crest.
How old do you think his children were?

TBF, whilst I like it, it's not exactly a complicated design is it :?:

I'd say his daughter was probably 4.

What troubles me is why she was involved in the design process some seven years before her dad had any connection with the club.

4 is about right - it was a great badge to copy onto a pencil case - the current one is rubbish for that.
You're clearly wrong about the Bernal connection with the club however - his daughter designed the club badge 7 years before he ended up playing for the team. HTH.

Absent Dad Can anyone here help settle an argument - what do the four colours signify on the old club badge?

Beer, biscuits, bulbs and Reading FC?

Or perhaps colours that the team played in?

I still prefer that badge to what we have now.

That badge is utter toss. The current one is a bit naff. The Elm ones were the best IMO.

I remember when we switched to that badge, there was 'uproar' in The Evening Post as a supporter had just had the Elm Trees badge tattooed on his arm....

Absent Dad Erm, that's what I said.

The point is that he did have a connection with the club before he was a player. Why do you assume that the connection started with Andy, and not with his fair daughter?

BTW - I like the shite striped one. Not plastic like the current one, not naff like the Elm Tree one, and not boring old school like the original one.
70s retro - timeless classic.

70s retro? - it must have been 10 years ahead of its time - it didn't appear until the mid-80s.

As I recall didn't the fans - and I know this goes against all things RFC - have a vote for the new badge in 1998 or so and the current option won - believe there were 4 choices originally...?

As I recall the "vote" was a bit North Korean in its makeup.

IIRC all 4 were very similar in design so not much of a choice
