Bjorn Sigurdarsson tweeted today that his club are trying to force him to stay. He's not happy and he wants to go.

@Mortskaa says that Romerikes Blad's sources suggest it will take £3m to get Sigurdarson. Wolves and Cardiff are very keen to get him, and seem prepared to cough up the £3m that Lillstrom want (most of which is wanted up front). Reading appear to have gone quiet on this.

Meh, if we weren't willing to go to £3m with the money we have behind us now then I honestly can't believe he is as good as some are trying to make out.

I guess we don't necessarily want to spend £3m on Sigurdarson when we already have tabled a £6m offer for Dame N'Doye, and are exploring options for Lukaku and / or Afobe on loan deals. We don't appear to be short on options right now.

Transfer dealings will generally be in competition with others but it isn't a willy-waving exercise. Being prudent / professional there has to be a line in the sand and maybe in the club's mind:

£2m = acceptable punt.

£3m = a step too far.

Good to see that despite our premiership status and apparent new wealth we're still competing with, and losing out to, Championship clubs in the transfer market :|

Everton and Wolves target Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson, 21, believes he is being kept at Lillestrom against his will, which has left the striker "mentally broken".

Competing? We opened the bidding, didn't fancy upping our offer by three times, and we walked away. If we don't feel he's ready, then what's wrong with that? :|

He is meant to be joining Wolves in mid-July but wants to go now. They're making him wait. They're not trying to keep him.

The link is a few posts up.

He is definitely going to wolves as I read it in Dagbladet newspaper (Norway) today. A fee has been agreed and he wants to join them. If he gets injured before joining wolves then the deal is off!

How could we expect to compete with Wolves?

It's not like the chap was on a free or anything.

Quite easily if we thought he was worth the effort?

Had a Wolves fan in work this afternoon. He says BBS has signed for them but apparently he has four games to complete for Lillestrom before the end of the Norwegian season, so he is allowed to complete them with the proviso Wolves can pull out if he gets a serious injury during that time.

But will he sign for Wolves if he gets injured in one of his last games?

If it's a bruised thigh, yes. If it's a broken leg. No. Somewhere in between? Maybe.

No worries fella! I don't really understand why we are still talking about this player because the Championship is probably his level right now and probably why he is going to Wolves rather than a Premiership club taking a gamble on a player for approx' 3-4 million, which is a lot of money to waste if it doesn't work out. The Norwegian premiership is roughly first and second division standard in this country, and sometimes dips into Championship quality (depending on the two teams playing). So it's a bit difficult to gamble on a player for several millions when he is playing in a league that is inferior to what we have here. Hate saying that becasue the standard in Norway used to be much higher quality a few seasons ago.

Ideal I don't agree that the standard used to be higher at all.
That is the perception taken by people who are madly in love with Rosenborg. They use that argument to justify why Rosenborg are now a mid-table team, while other teams are dominating.

The truth is that a few years ago Rosenborg was a much better team, and the other teams who now dominate were worse, meanwhile in the recent time the other teams who are now dominating are every bit as good as Rosenborg were, and Rosenborg are now rubbish. This is difficult to accept for the pro-Rosenborg people, who are everywhere, even people in Oslo who should really be supporting their local team, in fact support Rosenborg. Hence this myth has grown, that the teams that are now dominating, mainly Molde and Tromsø, are somehow poor and that the standard of football in the league has now fallen etc.
NO. It is not so. Only Rosenborg, and the other big teams like Brann and Vålerenga, have fallen in standards.

Last year Tromsø drew 1-1 with Atletic Bilbao over two legs, and were only eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by virtue of goal difference.
In fact they dominated the Spanish side for most of those two matches. I see that as a sign of strength. Tromsø try to play a similar style to RFC, soak up pressure and counterattack with pacey wingers. They have a very strong team ethic and grind the other teams into submission.
Molde are also a very strong side. They are fast and pass the ball well. They have more of an Arsenal/ManU type of style, where they have a lot of possession but try to play through balls constantly and have the players to do it as well, and they are absolutely not "pedestrian"-possessive in that Swansea-Rodgers type of way.

Now here's the problem:
Neither Molde or Tromsø are fashionable.
They are both small-town teams, which "nobody likes".
That is why these Rosenborg-fanatics are so unhappy. Not only are they not winning, but the people they hate ARE winning.

Imagine if Reading and Blackpool were 1st and 2nd in the premier league one year. Would there not be loads of moaning and groaning about how "weak" the league had become, from ManU and Liverpool fans who are distrought about their own team's failures?

The fact is the Norwegian league isn't any worse than before, if anything the ball is now played faster by more athletic players with higher levels of fitness, and we have attracted better foreign players than we were able to in the past. I put forward that the reality is the opposite of their claim, the league is better than it was 15 years ago, and the fact that Rosenborg are not winning it every year is a testament to how the other teams have improved and overtaken them by higher professionalism, more athleticism, better tactics, and better moves in the transfer market.
The influx of top-class internationals from other nations, mixed with Norway internationals has been key to Molde and Tromsø's success.

The complaints are simply sour grapes from fans of other teams who are upset.
"Madstad to Nadderud" is clearly a fan of Stabæk, a team who have disintegrated due to financial concerns and are relegation bound. Their failure does not in anyway say anything about the quality of other teams.

Interesting post Ideal but I am a fan of the underdogs - always have been and always will. I HATE Rosenborg and have never liked the side as I see them in the same light as Man Utd i.e. too much coverage on TV and a team which dominates season after season - boring! That is one aspect of the Norwegian Tippeligaen which has actually maintained my interest, whereby Rosenborg are not dominating as much at the moment and teams such as Molde and Tromsø are becoming more and more consistent. When Jan Jonsson took over as manager of Rosenborg I had a feeling that it might not work out as he is in similiar mould to Steve Coppell whereby he is more of a 'small' team manager working wonders with a shoestring budget, etc. I followed Tromsø with great interest in UEFA Europa League and they were extremely unlucky but what I did see was a team raising their game against much bigger opposition, playing better (Tromsø) and something which Tromsø do not do week in week out.

Yes, you are right about Stabæk but for me they were playing a level of football during Jan Jonsson's reign that was leagues above what I am seeing now. The players he brought in and what he got out of the existing players was absolutely incredible. I am still following Stabæk every week and the fact that they are down at the bottom does not mean that they are playing crap football because they haven't. If anything, the team have been extremely unlucky and should have won quite comfortably againgst Ålesund, Hønefoss, Haugesund due to the amount of chances they had. But when you are working against financial constraints and playing a bunch of kids then it is always going to be an uphill struggle. I didn't see Mr Sigurdarson netting a hatrick againgst so-called inferior opposition when the Blå won 4-1! It's not sour grapes on my part about the standard of football in Norway at the moment because Stabæk lose pretty much every week as I am equally critical about them (I hated the whole move to Fornebu and talk of a blue pitch, etc...complete madness!!!) but I simply do not see the same level of quality that was before and yes, that's just my opinion.
