Royal Lady He couldn't rule out the possibility of selling players at the end of the season. For the love of God Nige and the Team, get us promoted, even if it means winning the play-offs this time - at least that will give us a bit of respite for a while - yes, wages will go up - but the group of players we have here, when all fully fit, could do enough to keep us up next season and we'll also be a good prospect for a buyout - we could afford to buy in one or two more players to strengthen the team also. If we stay in the Championship at the end of the season, we'll lose McCarthy, Le Fondre, McCleary and a few more and it will be back to the drawing board, with little to no money to replace them with, no new owner and an uphill struggle. Sorry to sound so defeatist, but I think the lack of interest from a new owner and the unwillingness (and I don't blame him) from SJM to put a penny more in, will mean that if we don't go up this season, we'll really struggle in the future.

So basically the world is going to end if we don't go up?

No - but I can see RFC struggling - more so than at any other time in recent years.

Royal Lady Interesting that on Radio Berks interview I heard this morning - SJM constantly talks about being "in contact with the Zingarevich family" - I wonder what has happened to AZ?? I got the impression that Boris WAS the one funding it - fronted by AZ and TSI - was Boris checked throught he fit and proper channels?

My hunch is on Anton being "unwell" since August and receiving some form of treatment. As no one has seen him since then and there is nothing in the press directly attributable to him being present at an event.

I think it may also be a personality disorder of some sort, characterised by his manic flurries of activity in the transfer market such as the "Sissoko" event

If so, then get well soon!

Nabil Hassan ‏@NabilHassan79 13m

US billionaire Joshua Harris, who spent £500m buying his NBA and NHL franchises, had been interested in #readingfc

Or his child has been seriously ill or worse. Haven't seen a single pic of him and Katsia with the baby. Would have thought that something would have been released.

That would not preclude him from business dealings in person though - if only for a day or so and in Russia

But you are right the whole Jr. family have disappeared

Or.....assuming he hasn't made a will, if he is terminally ill and loses his fight for life then the club as an asset will be inherited by his NOK, the man with the Roubles.....Boris Zingarevich 8)

That is a possibility, but to get the wage bill back to somewhere more sustainable, we could lose Pog, Drenthe, Guthrie, Hal, McCarthy, and we may lose Alf. That's not exactly the end of the world, but it is a big saving!

We have Feds to come back in as No.1, some exciting kids knocking on the door, and they may well come in and do as well as McCarthy, Hal, Karacan and Obita have. I'm not all that worried really! We'll have a few mid-table seasons as youngsters adapt and develop and SJM gets the club back on an even keel. Surely that's not that bad.

It does feel like a bad decision by Mr Saviour may cost us all the momentum and progress we have made in the last few years, which will have to be done all over again to get us back to where we are right now.

It does, I agree - but had TSI not come in, we were very unlikely going to make the play-offs that season, and we were still selling our best player every summer to stay afloat; so we're back to where we were pre-TSI. Obviously a few will go in the summer, but again that really doesn't bother me. If we hark back to a previous thread about not feeling that bond with the majority of these players, we may get that back after the summer window comes and goes.

I guess we will never know if, had we turned down TSI, we would have courted a better offer which may have still resulted in promotion, or investment that would see us up the following year.

Forgive me for not really looking forward to the return of JM and losing our best players.

Not unexpected. Fortunately, I think we have a good number of players with decent value, so hopefully we won't lose all of them. With some promising youngsters coming through, it's not all doom and gloom.

All of that notwithstanding the unnecessarily raised expectations, an absent owner and at least two takeover bids that have gone quiet.

Remember this time we get 4 years of parachute payments, last time it was 3.

So as next years income will be the same this we need not be as desperate to sell star players, assuming of course they are happy to stay and play in the championship.
