Victor Meldrew Well worth watching and a cracker as predicted on page 1.
I thought Kuhl showed the benefit of playing for the U21s in a very calm and assured performance and Reading's keeper looks to be following the recent trend-really good shot-stopper but not so good at kicking.

As expected Harry Wilson was the star player tonight and looks to have a big future.
I'm not sure why some posters have gone on about the commentators-I thought that once again they were very fair and had done their homework on the players and I for one am really glad that LFCTV covered what was one of the best games played at the Mad Stad this season with so much more controlled football played by both sides than we usually see in the Championship.

Wilson was good, but personally thought Rossiter was the stand out from both teams. Very impressive.

From an 'England' POV, as well as a Reading one, tonight was encouraging. When you see home-grown 16/17/18 year olds from both sides putting on a display like that it don't half warm the heart.

So said the commo team. Fulham are the best there is at this level and almost unbeatable at home though apparently.

Yep, and that will just be a 'guide' date from the FA. Actual dates won't be set until we know who our opposition will be, and I'll be staggered if they aren't midweek evening games.

"The Semi-Final follows on from there, with the first legs to be played by Saturday 22 March and the second legs to be completed by Saturday 5 April."
http://www.thefa.com/news/competitions/ ... raw-070214

But as you say they are more guides as they also said "All Sixth Round Proper ties must be played by Saturday 8 March." and we've just played on 12th March.

1st Leg: at home
2nd Leg: Either Fulham or Huddersfield.

Wilson reminds me of a young Harry Kewell and having seen bits of quite a few of their games he always shows-a shame he is Welsh.
I agree about home-growns but unfortunately over the years so few of these youngsters make it and in fact from a Liverpool perspective I can only think of Michael Owen in recent years as one who has reached the very top having come through the system as a star at all levels and even Carragher and Gerrard were not such stand-out performers at the younger ages.
Spearing and Guthrie were regulars at junior level -whatever happened to them?
Incidentally what a clean game and as one of the other posters said I hope our first-teamers took notice of the excellent penalties taken by the young Royals.

We lost 4-3 away to Fulham at the start of the season. Recently we were also defeated 2-1 at home, but we played mostly second string players that day so isn't a true reflection. Would be a good contest.

Don't write off Huddersfield either, who have an excellent academy set up, despite not being Cat 1, and have an U18 side in top form.

I hope I can make the games as I'd like to go to both.

So why are we home in the 1st leg? seems a little unfair. just like when we played Fulham last season in that final at Craven cottage

Just back from mad stad. We looked dead & buried at 4-2 down in extra time. Loads of reading fans left when 4th went in. Some people never learn. What an immense game if football. The future's bright, the future's blue & white. URZ!

Dolan's team talk looked pretty special at extra time half time.

Norwich had an attendance of 9,690 last year for their home Semi. 2nd leg though.

21,549 in the home leg of final.

Wonder how many we'll get.

This. The team in the last 15 mins were completely different to the demoralised, fatigued group that had looked out of the game. Brilliant stuff, led by Captain Fantastic who managed to finally get a grip on the midfield towards the end. Dolan to follow Adkins if/when he leaves.

Here's a question. Would we rather go up via the play-offs and struggle away in the prem next season with a bunch of mercenaries that aren't up to the task like last season, or stay down and try and bring through a few more of the younger guys into the first team squad and build from there? Obviously those are two extremes, and maybe I'm just setting myself up for the inevitable disappointment of a failed play-off push/campaign, but you see the excitement on the various social media mediums over the academy which is hitting levels never seen before and just wonder whether there is more appetite for seeing these guys graduate into the first team than there is for watching us get spanked by Chelsea/Arsenal/City again.

Quality.

The YouTube and TV coverage makes this report rather redundant, but I'm still gonna give it.

Ward- couple of excellent saves including a worldy in the first half. Maybe could have done better for some of the goals. Excellent distribution, chipping passes to the full backs with ease.
Watson- brilliant pass for the first goal. Very good for the first 70 minutes, then faded a bit. Up against an excellent player, I thought Ojo was the only Liverpool player who would have got in our side.
Dickie- missed a header, and lost a yard of pace due to cramp which was responsible for the fourth (?) goal. However, a good performance with that aside, particularly on the ball.
Hyam- nearly responsible for a red card or goal when he tried to take on too many players. Always offering a passing option.
Owusu- great run for our second. Maybe should have been taking up better defensive positions. Had to take the yellow.
Kuhl- a truly excellent captain. Good game generally, but didn't do anything particularly outstanding- except the captaining obviously.
Fridge- shades of Leigertwood in the way he shielded the ball to keep possession at times. Some fantastic throws down the line, but the ones into the box didn't work.
Kelly- some good passing, particularly for the third goal. Not sure he's quite on Tanner's level yet though.
Stacey- unlucky not to get a goal. Fairly quiet for much of the match, but did well with the late charge.
Fosu- quite quiet, but showed good intelligence to cover for roaming team mates, and did the old Dave Kitson trick of not interfering with play when in an offside position for the second goal. Booked for dissent. Should have had another penalty, but for some reason referees seem disinclined to give them to him.
Cardwell- excellent, probably MOTM. His first goal was top drawer. The second was rather fortuitous on his part, but he did well to keep going.

DTC ((DJ-TC?)- a threat with his pace. Took his goal well and ran the channels to good effect.
Husin- bit of a strange sub, but he did excellently, particularly in the final push where he really drove the team on.
McLennan- his pace came in handy at the back, but his attacking contribution was better. Excellent goal, continues our run of having a left back score in every (home, cup) match!

Referee 4- pretty dire. Should have given out more cards, particularly for Liverpool's timewasting, an off the ball foul on Dickie, and an attempted trip on DCT who was through (bizarrely signalled that the defender had "got the ball"). He clearly knew timewasting was an issue because he warned Fridge for taking as long as always at throw, but then kept letting them get away with kicking the ball away.
Assistants 9- truly excellent performances, particularly from the guy on the near side with the yellow flag who got the two big decisions (our second and third goals) absolutely right. Only miss out on 10s because of a few questionable throw in decisions (mostly in our favour).
Other academy lads 10- totally got behind the U18s with great chanting. Unfortunately it looks like some of them are getting lifetime stadium bans for going on the pitch
